Red Sox sign Michael Brenly to minor-league deal

(1/28/2014) The Red Sox have signed catcher Michael Brenly to a minor-league deal, MLBDailyDish.com reports.

Brenly was released by the Cubs last March and made eight appearances in the Diamondbacks organization, going 2 for 17 with one walk at Triple-A Reno. He is a career .249/.305/.332 hitter in the minor leagues.

(3/30/2013) The Cubs have released catcher Michael Brenly, according to the Chicago Tribune. He made four plate appearances for the team this spring without recording a hit.

Brenly spent the entire 2012 season at Double-A Tennessee, hitting .227/.295/.342 in 300 plate appearances.

(3/8/2013) The Cubs continued shaping their roster for the upcoming season and shifted three players Friday. Outfielder Matt Szczur was optioned to Double-A Tennessee, while pitcher Dayan Diaz and catcher Michael Brenly -- both non-roster invitees -- were moved to the minor-league camp.
