Marlins make several roster moves Saturday

(7/19/2014) The Marlins have made several moves prior to Saturday's game against the Giants, FOX Sports Florida reports. They have optioned first baseman Justin Bour down to Triple-A New Orleans and purchased the contract of outfielder Jordany Valdespin from New Orleans. Miami has also transferred shortstop Rafael Furcal to the 60-day disabled list.

(7/2/2014) First baseman Justin Bour, who was demoted by the Marlins last week, has been promoted by the same team.

Bour spent much of June with Miami, but played sparingly and managed just one hit in his last nine at-bats.

(6/27/2014) The Marlins have promoted left-hander Brian Flynn from Triple-A New Orleans and demoted first baseman Justin Bour to the same team.

Flynn hasn't pitched in the majors this season, but did start four games a year ago, compiling an 0-2 mark and 8.50 ERA with 27 hits and 13 walks in 18 innings.

Bour was set to start at first base, but things changed once Derek Dietrich was promoted. Dietrich will start at second, which pushes Jeff Baker to first base.

Bour made four appearances while with the Marlins, going 5 for 13 with one walk and two RBI. He returns to a .330/.407/.562 line with nine home runs and 36 RBI in 203 at-bats with New Orleans.

(6/5/2014) The Marlins got big performances out of two rookies Thursday against the Rays, as catcher Jacob Realmuto and first baseman Justin Bour combined for four hits in their respective major-league debuts in an 11-6 win.

Realmuto stood out, despite batting eighth in his first game. He drove in three runs with a 2-for-4 game, with one RBI single in the fourth and another in the sixth inning. Bour batted ahead of him and drove in one run of his own, while finishing the game 2 for 5.

The first baseman certainly earned the callup with a stat line of .330/.407/.562 with nine homers and 36 RBI in 203 at-bats.

Bour, who just turned 26 years old last week, has yet to play in a major league game.

(6/3/2014) The Marlins are expected to select the contract of first baseman Justin Bour from Triple-A New Orleans Wednesday, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Bour would take the roster spot opened up by sending infielder Derek Dietrich down.

Bour is hitting .330 with nine home runs for the Zephyrs. He was selected in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft this year.

(6/14/2011) Cubs 1B prospect Justin Bour continues to rake for Class A Daytona. He is second in the Florida State League in homers (16) and RBI (52). For the season, he is batting .318 with 17 doubles, a .382 on-base percentage, .595 slugging percentage and .977 OPS. The George Mason product told The Washington Post he has made some tweaks at the plate with the help of Cubs minor league hitting coordinator Dave Keller. “Overall it’s pretty much the same as I had in high school,” Bour said. ”I just dropped my hands a little bit, learned how to use my lower half.”
