(11/6/2013) In addition to outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, who was extended a qualifying offer, and starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo, who was not, Reds relief pitcher Nick Masset, relief pitcher Zach Duke and infielder Cesar Izturis have declared free agency.

Arroyo has already drawn interest from the Mets, and Choo is expected to have several suitors as well.


Four Reds reserves miss out on qualifying offers

(11/4/2013) The Reds did not make qualifying offers to the following players on Monday, according to MLB.com: infielder Cesar Izturis and relievers Manny Parra, Zach Duke and Nick Masset.

Izturis served as a utility infielder this season, while Parra and Duke worked out of the bullpen. Masset did not pitch in 2013 due to shoulder issues and thoracic outlet syndrome.

(9/7/2013) Reds second baseman Cesar Izturis got the start Saturday against the Dodgers with Brendan Phillips sitting out. Izturis ended up with a three-hit game.

The light-hitting middle infielder went 3 for 5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. He's batting just .195 on the season for the Reds.

The 33-year-old veteran had just one hit in his previous nine appearances.

(7/6/2013) Reds infielder Cesar Izturis made a surprise impact Saturday, in a 13-4 win over the Mariners.

Izturis went 2 for 4 in the game with three RBI, including two on an RBI double in the fifth inning. He doubled his RBI total for the season, as he now has six to go with a .203 batting average in 79 at-bats.

(6/26/2013) Reds infielder Cesar Izturis will get the start at second base in Brandon Phillips' absence Wednesday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Phillips is on the paternity list for the next few days. Izturis is hitting just .194/.266/.236 for Cincinnati but could get the nod until Phillips returns due to a strong glove.

(3/31/2013) The Reds made several moves to finalize their roster for the regular season, reassigning second baseman Emmanuel Burriss, catcher Corky Miller and outfielders Denis Phipps and Derrick Robinson to their minor-league camp. Cincinnati also outrighted pitcher Jose Arredondo to Triple-A Louisville while optioning pitcher Logan Ondrusek to Double-A Pensacola.

Third baseman Jason Donald also was designated for assignment and the Reds purchased the contract of shortstop Cesar Izturis to take his place on the 40-man roster.
