White Sox to release Dewayne Wise

(8/3/2013) The White Sox have requested waivers on outfielder Dewayne Wise, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Chicago plans to grant Wise his unconditional release.

Wise last played for the White Sox back on May 29 and hit .234 in the majors with Chicago this season over 64 at-bats.

(7/20/2013) White Sox outfielder Dewayne Wise resumed his rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte Friday, going 1 for 2 with a walk. He was pulled from the rehab assignment earlier in the week after experiencing a setback in his recovery from a hamstring strain.

(7/16/2013) White Sox outfielder Dewayne Wise was pulled from his rehab assignment after suffering another setback, according to the Chicago Tribune.

An earlier report said Wise had completed his assignment, but that's not the case. The White Sox pulled him from Triple-A after another setback. Wise has already been shut down once after suffering an oblique issue during his first attempt at a rehab assignment. He will remain with the major-league club until he's ready to resume playing games in Triple-A. 

Wise is hitting .234 in 64 at-bats in the majors.

Wise finished 1 for 2 with an RBI for the Knight. He has been on the disabled list since early June with a hamstring strain, and a rib injury previously delayed his rehab assignment. He hit .234/.258/.328 with one home run and three RBI in 64 at-bats before getting hurt.

The 35-year-old, who has started in back-to-back games, has just 14 hits this season over 56 at-bats as a part-time player. He's struck out 12 times.

(5/1/2013) White Sox outfielder Dewayne Wise became the first player to homer off Yu Darvish this season Tuesday against the Rangers.

Wise, who made a spot start for Jordan Danks, had a two-run homer off  Darvish in the sixth inning -- his first of the season. Danks snapped an 0-for-15 funk as he finished 4 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI in a 10-6 loss.

Wise is hitting .231 with a home run and four RBI in 26 at-bats.

(4/24/2013) White Sox outfielder Dewayne Wise has primarily filled a utility role in his 11-year career and knows how to prepare for limited at-bats, but he admits it's not an easy challenge. Wise is batting .125 (2 for 16) through 11 games for Chicago.

"It's really tough, especially with the beginning of the season with the weather," Wise said, per MLB.com. "I knew coming back over here this year that I probably wouldn't get the playing time I did last year. You know, I'm a veteran guy. I know how to prepare myself to stay ready when I get the opportunity. But it's tough. You have to go out and prepare every day so when you do get in there, you give it the best you can."

(4/20/2013) With Dayan Viciedo being placed on the disabled list Saturday, Jordan Danks, Dewayne Wise and Blake Tekotte are expected to see playing time for the White Sox.

Danks drew the start Saturday against the Twins.

"Last year, I knew my role was going to be the off-the-bench kind of guy and an occasional start here and there," Danks told MLB.com. "But with Viciedo going down, I feel like there's going to be a lot more playing time. I'll kind of utilize the opportunity."

Wise earned his second start of the season, with Alejandro De Aza getting a day off. Wise struck out twice in a 3-1 loss.

He is batting .154 with two hits in 13 at-bats this season.
