Ginter off DL, but outrighted down


(8/25/2008) The Indians removed pitcher Matt Ginter (right forearm strain) from 15-day DL and outrighted him to the minor leagues Monday.

(8/6/2008) The Indians optioned RHP Tom Mastny to Triple-A Buffalo and placed RHP Matt Ginter on the 15-day DL with a right forearm strain. Anthony Reyes is expected to replace Ginter in the Indians' rotation.

(7/23/2008) Matt Ginter (1-1) allowed three runs and seven hits over six innings in his second start with the Indians during a 3-2 loss Tuesday against the Angels. Ginter had a 2-0 lead before Los Angeles scored twice in the second to tie the game. He then allowed the game-winning hit on a Jeff Mathis solo homer in the fifth. Ginter didn't issue a walk and struck out one.

(7/12/2008) Indians SP Matt Ginter, who hadn't made a start in the majors since 2005, picked up his first victory since 2004 on Saturday against the Rays. He gave up five hits in five scoreless innings and recorded five strikeouts. The right-hander's contract was purchased by the Indians from their Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo on Saturday. Cleveland needed a starter to take the rotation spot vacated by CC Sabathia, who was traded to Milwaukee on Monday for four prospects.

(7/6/2008) Indians SP Matt Ginter, who is 6-6 4.27 in Triple-A this season, seems to be the logical call-up if the rumored C.C. Sabathia-to-Milwaukee trade goes through before Sabathia's scheduled Tuesday start. Ginter's last outing was a no-decision on Thursday in which he gave up five runs on nine hits and would work on regular rest if he got the call up.

(4/27/2007) According to MLB.com, with the Cardinals optioning P Randy Keisler to Triple-A Friday and brining up reliever Kelvin Jimenez, the team does not have a starter for Tuesday's game against the Brewers. While the team figures out who to slot in, injured SP Chris Carpenter (elbow) will not be one of those options, manager Tony La Russa said. Some options include using a hanful of relievers or possibly calling up a veteran like Matt Ginter or Mike Smith.

(4/30/2006) The Red Sox have not yet announced a potential replacement for No. 5 starter Lenny DiNardo, who better but not great Saturday. Matt Ginter is working on schedule, allowing 10 hits and three runs in six innings Saturday, too. His Triple-A ERA through five starts is 2.79, but the Red Sox appear ready to stick with DiNardo for one more outing. Abe Alvarez (2.17) also is working just two days different on the schedule and could become an option.
