Marlins see Kevin Gregg as a set-up reliever

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6/3/2014) Recently signed reliever Kevin Gregg figures to feature prominently in the Marlins' bullpen plans moving forward, as manager Mike Redmond told the Palm Beach Post Tuesday.

Redmond foresees using Gregg in an eighth-inning setup role, given his experience pitching at the end of games. Gregg served as the Marlins' closer in 2007 and 2008, saving 61 of 74 chances over those two seasons.

"You look at what he’s done in his career," Redmond said. "He's closed games, he's done a lot of different roles. He definitely fits that bill."

Gregg posted 3.48 ERA in 62 innings for the Cubs a year ago, recording 33 saves, but is unlikely to see much time as a closer in Miami. Steve Cishek has blown just three saves over the last two seasons.
