Pirates cut down roster

(3/13/2013) The Pirates announced Wednesday they optioned Vic Black, Stolmy Pimentel, Clint Robinson, Jerry Sands, Hunter Strickland and Duke Welker to Triple-A Indianapolis. They also reassigned Erik Cordier, Darren Ford, Matt Hague, Anderson Hernandez and Jameson Taillon to minor-league camp.

(2/16/2013) Pittsburgh pitcher Stolmy Pimentel has obtained his work visa and is expected to report to spring training on Saturday, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Pimentel was the only player for Pittsburgh not to report on time.

(12/26/2012) The Red Sox sent pitching prospect Stolmy Pimentel to the Pirates as part of a six-player deal Wednesday. The Pirates traded reliever Joel Hanrahan and second baseman Brock Holt to Boston, and in return, they received reliever Mark Melancon, outfielder Jerry Sands and infielder Ivan De Jesus in addition to Pimentel. In 22 starts at Double-A Portland last season, Pimentel went 6-7 with a 4.59 ERA.
