Rangers impressed with Roman Mendez

(7/10/2014) Rangers reliever Roman Mendez, who made his major-league debut Tuesday night with two scoreless innings against the Astros, became the third pitcher in Rangers history to throw at least two innings without allowing a hit in his debut, reports MLB.com.

"They said he was throwing strikes, getting his slider across the plate, and that's what he did [Tuesday] night -- attacked the zone," manager Ron Washington said. "Now I didn't know he threw it 97 [mph]. ... When he popped 97 last night, I asked [pitching coach] Mike [Maddux], 'He throws 97?' He said yeah."


Roman Mendez optioned to Triple-A

Roman Mendez's season comes to an end at Double-A

(5/31/2013) Rangers pitching prospect Roman Mendez has undergone season-ending surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right elbow, the Rangers announced Friday.

Mendez had a 1.82 ERA in 24 2/3 innings of relief at Double-A Fresco.

(3/8/2013) The Rangers optioned pitching prospect Roman Mendez to Double-A Frisco on Friday. Mendez was dealing with a stress fracture in his right (throwing) elbow prior to spring training, which limited him in the early part of camp. He did not make a Cactus League appearance.

(2/5/2013) The Dallas Morning News reports Rangers prospect Romon Mendez is sidelined with a stress fracture in his pitching elbow. General manager Jon Daniels said Tuesday Mendez's injury was discovered in October and he is currently rehabbing in Arizona. Mendez will be limited when spring training opens.
