The 2010 first-round pick (45th) began his career as a starter, but he has spent most of the 2015 season as a reliever. He went 2-2 with a 4.05 ERA, 71 strikeouts and 30 walks in 33 outings (five starts) for Round Rock.

Rangers prospect Luke Jackson changes delivery for spring training

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/16/2015) Rangers prospect Luke Jackson came into spring training with a new delivery and it did not disappoint Monday. Jackson struck out two of the seven hitters he faced and manager Jeff Bannister was pleased with the results, reports the Dallas Morning News.

"More in control of his delivery and the game," Banister said. "Impressive."

Jackson was also able to keep his emotions in check throughout the appearance.

"Threw way more strikes than I have been throwing," said Jackson. "Mike's been harping on getting me to slow down. It really helps. I can’t think him enough for that."

Rangers shore up 40-man roster

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(11/21/2014) The Rangers have made changes to the 40-man roster.

The team purchased the contracts of Jorge Alfaro , Hanser Alberto, Jerad Eickhoff and Luke Jackson . All four players will now be protected from the Rule 5 draft. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the team designated outfielder Jim Adduci for assignment.

Rangers could turn to in-house candidate to fill out rotation

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/23/2014) If the Rangers don't bring in a high-profile free agent starting pitcher, then they will have many in-house choices to replace Derek Holland, who is expected to miss half the season due to a knee injury. Among the candidates are Colby Lewis, Nick TepeschMichael Kirkman, Jose Contreras, Luke Jackson and Alex Gonzalez, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

However, the paper notes it "would seem slim" that Gonzalez, the team's 2013 first-round pick, and Jackson, the team's minor-league pitcher of the year, would make the opening day rotation.

"If you look at our guys that finished the year with us, it’s Yu Darvish and Martin Perez and that’s really about it," pitching coach Mike Maddux said Tuesday. "We’d like to have some of these guys step up. Some of these guys that were healthy need to continue to be healthy, and some of these guys who were not, we’d love for them to regain their health.

"But we’re really looking for these diamonds in the rough to step up and fill the voids that we have. There’s going to be some intra-staff competition for those spots, and it’s going to be the 12 best fits that we can set up."
