Failed drug test to cost Josh Sale 50 games

(8/12/2014) Rays outfielder prospect Josh Sale was hit with a 50-game suspension for a second positive test for a drug of abuse, the team announced Tuesday.

Sale, who missed all of the 2013 season due to a suspension, was hitting .238/.313/.344 in 323 at-bats for Class A Charlotte.

(3/30/2014) The Rays reinstated outfielder Josh Sale to Class-A Charlotte on Sunday, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The 2010 first-round pick (17th overall) has not played since the 2012 season. He has a career .238 average, .345 on-base percentage, .408 slugging percentage and .754 OPS in 134 games.

(1/15/2014) Rays director of minor-league operations Mitch Lukevics said outfield prospect Josh Sale, who was suspended indefinitely in May for conduct detrimental to the organization, remains on the restricted list, but he will play at some point this season, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

(5/29/2013) The Rays have suspended minor-league outfielder Josh Sale indefinitely for "conduct detrimental to the organization," the Tampa Bay Times reports Wednesday. 

Sale bragged on his Facebook page about throwing coins at a stripper. This is his second suspension, the first coming as a result of a positive test for methamphetamine and another amphetamine. He has not played this season as a result of the drug suspension.

(8/28/2012) Rays prospect Josh Sale has been suspended for 50 games for using performance enhancing drugs, MLB announced Tuesday. Sale, who was the Rays top draft pick back in 2010, has denied any wrong doing. “I believe my suspension is unwarranted and that I did not take any banned substance," he told the Tampa Tribune.
