Yankees take 12 players off spring roster

(3/18/2014) The Yankees removed 12 players from their spring roster Tuesday. Outfielder Ramon Flores was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while Francisco Arcia, Tyler Austin, Bruce Billings, Robert Coello, Brian Gordon, Corban Joseph, Mark Montgomery, Pete O'Brien, Jose Pirela, Mason Williams and Chase Whitley were reassigned to minor-league camp.

(1/29/2014) The Yankees announced Wednesday they signed nine players to minor-league contracts, which included an invitation to spring training.

They were pitcher Bruce Billings, infielder Russ Canzler, pitcher Robert Coello, pitcher Brian Gordon, pitcher Chris Leroux, outfielder Antoan Richardson, infielder Scott Sizemore, infielder Yangervis Solarte and infielder Zelous Wheeler.

Coello, who has been dealing with issues in both his shoulder and elbow, is expected to return near the end of the week. He owned a 4.30 ERA in 14 2/3 innings for Anaheim before the injury.

(7/20/2013) Angels relief pitcher Robert Coello had hoped to begin a throwing program after a July 15 visit to the doctor, but he has yet to begin throwing, MLB.com reports.

"He's not throwing the baseball yet, but his rehab is going well," manager Mike Scioscia told MLB.com.

Coello, who said July 6 he thought his inflamed shoulder was making progress, has been on the disabled list since mid-June. He's 2-2 with a 4.30 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 21 strikeouts and a save in 14 2/3 innings.

(5/23/2013) Angels reliever Robert Coello earned the first save of his career by getting the final out of a 5-4 win over the Royals Thursday. Regular closer Ernesto Frieri surrendered two earned runs on three hits and a walk before being pulled in favor of Coello.

Coello has not allowed an earned run in 7 1/3 innings this season.
