Luis Vasquez throws batting practice Wednesday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/5/2014) Braves pitcher Luis Vasquez threw live batting practice Wednesday and will do so again Friday, MLB.com reports.

"I felt good and that's what we're looking for," Vasquez said after the session.

If Vasquez gets through Friday's batting-practice session without issue, he'll move on to Grapefruit League action. He's battling for a bullpen job this spring after going 3-3 with a 2.52 ERA in 35 2/3 innings of work in the minors last season.

Luis Vasquez dealing with strained muscle

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/17/2014) Braves pitcher Luis Vasquez is dealing with a strained side or back muscle suffered in late January during the Dominican Winter League, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

"It's nothing big," Vasquez said. "I felt something and stopped…. Right now I don’t feel nothing. But I have to wait to see the doctor before I can start throwing."

Vasquez reported to camp Monday after visa issues and could begin workouts as soon as Tuesday if he gets the doctor's clearance. He could be a favorite for a bullpen spot after an impressive DWL performance this offseason.

Vasquez is one of three Braves pitchers who are delayed, but he has the best chance of making the team's opening day roster. Vasquez was signed to a minor-league deal after performing well during winter ball.
