Travis Witherspoon assigned to Double-A Jackson

(12/18/2013) Mariners outfielder Travis Witherspoon has cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last week, and the team has assigned him to Double-A Jackson.

Witherspoon was claimed off waivers from the Angels in October and managed to get through waivers with his second team. He hit .214/.299/.342 with 11 home runs, 38 RBI and 30 stolen bases in 448 at-bats with Double-A Arkansas last season.

Witherspoon hit .214/.299/.342 in 448 at-bats at Double-A Arkansas. With Witherspoon now on the roster, the team had to designate catcher Henry Blanco for assignment.
