by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7/24/2013) Brewers pitcher Donovan Hand, who was struck on the hand by a pitch during a bunt attempt Tuesday, expects to make Sunday's scheduled start against the Rockies, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

"I think I'll make my next start," Hand told the Journal Sentinel Wednesday. "I don't see anything holding me back. From the point when I woke up to now it's already made progress, so hopefully it can keep progressing every day and just kind of see where it is at the end of it."

Hand was able to complete his day-after throwing routine without any issues.

X-rays on his hand came back negative and Hand was diagnosed with a right hand contusion. He is listed as day to day. His next start is scheduled for Sunday at Colorado, if healthy.

Donovan Hand has no ill effects from line drive

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6/30/2013) Brewers pitcher Donovan Hand's spot in the rotation was assured recently, and a line drive he took off his pitching arm Saturday will not jeopardize that.

Hand was removed after he took a comebacker off his right wrist in the fifth inning against the Pirates but was able to finish the inning before being pulled. Manager Ron Roenicke told MLB.com after the game he would have left Hand for the sixth if not for the line drive, but the move was made as a precaution.

"It's fine," Hand said Sunday. "We didn't want it to tighten up, and I was up there in pitches, anyway. Sixty-four is not a lot, but they're just trying to ease me into [starting], I think."

Hand has not pitched extensively as a starter since 2009 but has allowed two runs in 9 2/3 innings in two starts.

Donovan Hand sticking in rotation

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(6/30/2013) Brewers pitcher Donovan Hand will remain in the rotation for now after pitching well in two starts, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.

"We'll see when the other guys come off the DL," manager Ron Roenicke told reporters Sunday. "I like him there."

Hand has allowed just two earned runs in 9 2/3 innings in two starts and would have stayed in Saturday's game longer had it not been for being struck on the wrist by a line drive. Roenicke said that the injury wouldn't keep Hand from making his next start Thursday against the Nationals.

Hand has allowed just two runs over his last 12 2/3 innings pitched. He is scheduled to make his next start Thursday at Washington. He has allowed five runs over 10 1/3 innings away from Miller Park.

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/26/2013) Brewers pitcher Donovan Hand is having his second start pushed back to Saturday at Pittsburgh to allow fellow rookie pitcher Johnny Hellweg to make his MLB debut Friday.

"We'll probably put him in Friday and bump Donny Hand back a day," manager Ron Roenicke said Tuesday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "(Hellweg's) scheduled start really is Thursday (with Nashville), so we're bumping him back one day."

Hand made his first start Saturday against the Braves, allowing two hits and one walk in 4 2/3 scoreless innings. The right-hander struck out three. Hand, who has also worked in relief, has a 2.50 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in nine outings.
