Indians activate LF Zach Walters, option to Triple-A

(4/24/2015) The Indians activated utility man Zach Walters from the 15-day disabled list Friday and then optioned him to the team's Triple-A affiliate, the team announced.

Walters has not played in the majors this season after he sustained an oblique injury in spring training.

(4/23/2015) Indians infielder Zach Walters went 1 for 4 for the Columbus Clippers in a rehab start on Wednesday night. 

The Clippers took on the Indianapolis Indians and lost 8-6. Walters played third base in this game, with his lone hit going for an RBI triple. Two of the outs Walters recorded came via strikeout. 

Walters injured his oblique early in the season and is on the 15-day disabled list.

(4/20/2015) Indians first baseman Nick Swisher and left fielder Zach Walters are both expected to start minor league injury rehab assignments this week, according to the Northeast Ohio Media Group.

Swisher started the season on the 15-day disabled list after having surgery on both knees. Walters is on the 15-day DL for an oblique injury. 

Swisher and Walters will both play for Triple-A Columbus on injury rehab. Walters will begin his rehab assignment Wednesday

Indians manager Terry Francona said Walters could begin rehabbing in the next few days while Swisher is right behind him.

(4/12/2015) Indians infielder Zach Walters has been making progress with his in-game activity in Arizona as he rehabs from a strained oblique, MLB.com reports.

Manager Terry Francona indicated Sunday that the utility player would be limited to one position during the early stages of his rehab. Walters will be sent on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Columbus when he's able to play a full nine innings.

RHP Gavin Floyd was sent to the 60-day disabled list. Floyd was coming back from a stress fracture of his elbow and reinjured himself in spring training.

Infielder Zach Walters (oblique), outfielder Nick Swisher (knees) and RHP Josh Tomlin (shoulder) were all placed on the 15-day disabled list.

(3/14/2015) Indians utility player Zach Walters will miss the rest of spring training, and possibly the start of the season, with an oblique injury.

MRI results on Saturday showed a high-grade strain of his right oblique.

"It's safe to say he's going to miss some time," Indians manager Terry Francona told MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. "Regardless of what the MRI says, you have to treat the symptoms. Guys can't start doing baseball activities until they're pain-free, and that varies with every one of them, regardless of what the diagnosis is."

(3/14/2015) Indians utility player Zach Walters will undergo more follow-up tests on his injured right oblique to gather more information, according to MLB.com. Walters injured his oblique while swinging at a pitch during Wednesday's 10-5 Cactus League loss to the Royals.

"He's pretty sore," Indians manager Terry Francona said of Walters. "We're going to have to get him checked and see where that goes."

(3/13/2015) Indians manager Terry Francona said that the abdominal injury Zach Walters sustained on Thursday is more of an oblique injury, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer

Walters injured his oblique while swinging at a pitch during Wednesday's 10-5 Cactus League loss to the Royals. Walters is experiencing soreness and will have the injury evaluated again. 

The Indians acquired Walters last year in a deal that sent infielder Asdrubal Cabrera to the Nationals.

Walters was injured while swinging and was forced to leave the game early.

The utility man was traded from the Nationals to the Indians before the last year's deadline. As a result of the injury, he struggled to make an impact at the plate, slashing .170/.223/.432 with seven homers and 12 RBI over 88 at-bats.

Walters struck in the top of the 10th inning. With the game tied, Walters clubbed a 96 mph fastball out to right center for the two-run shot. He also singled and walked earlier in the contest. He finished 2 for 4, with two runs scored and two RBI. Walters has now hit five home runs in his last 10 games.
