Nationals send Grace, Butler to Triple-A; Difo to Class A

(3/19/2015) The Nationals trimmed down their big-league roster on Thursday, optioning left-hander Matt Grace and catcher Dan Butler to Triple-A Syracuse and infielder Wilmer Difo to Class A Potomac, per the team's official website.

Red Sox trade Dan Butler to Nationals for Danny Rosenbaum

(1/14/2015) The Red Sox traded catcher Dan Butler to the Nationals for pitcher Danny Rosenbaum.

Butler made his MLB debut in 2014, batting .211 with two RBI in seven games for Boston. The 28-year-old catcher has logged six years in the minors, compiling a .256/.349/.416/.765 slash line.

The 27-year-old Rosenbaum has yet to make his MLB debut. He was limited to four starts at Triple-A in 2014 before he needed Tommy John surgery. He was cleared to start throwing in December, according to MASNsports.com. Rosenbaum has a 3.12 ERA over six seasons in the minors.

The move was made to make room for Craig Breslow. In 2014, Butler had four hits in 19 at-bats.

(9/10/2014) Red Sox rookie catcher Dan Butler had a memorable game in another forgettable one for his team Wednesday.

Butler broke up a perfect game with a double in the sixth inning against Baltimore starter Wei-Yin Chen. He followed his first major league hit with another double and single. Not bad considering he entered the game 0 for 11.

(3/16/2013) The Red Sox optioned pitcher Alex Wilson and catcher Daniel Butler to Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday.

Wilson, who was a second-round draft pick in 2009, was moved to the bullpen last year at Triple-A. He is not considered a top prospect for the organization.

Butler has never seen time in the majors but could if something happens to a Boston backstop this season. He hit .247 between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket last year.
