Mets call up Kirk Nieuwenhuis, option down Darrell Ceciliani

(7/6/2015) The Mets purchased the contract of outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis from Triple-A Las Vegas, the team announced on Monday. 

Nieuwenhuis was hitting .293 with seven home runs and 20 RBI at Las Vegas. 

To make room, the Mets optioned outfielder Darrell Ceciliani to Triple-A. He was hitting .206 with the Mets. 


Darrell Ceciliani replaces Juan Lagares in center for Mets

(6/13/2015) Mets center fielder Juan Lagares is out of Saturday's lineup, snapping a string of 17 straight starts for him. 

Darrell Ceciliani will replace Lagares, making his second start in center and first since May 24. He'll bat sixth in the lineup. 


1B Lucas Duda (knee) not in Mets' lineup

(6/1/2015) Mets first baseman Lucas Duda is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Padres. 

Duda was hit by a pitch in the left knee in Sunday's loss to the Marlins. Duda's knee was feeling sore on Monday, which is why he's getting the night off. With Duda out, Michael Cuddyer will play first base and bat fourth. 

"I just kind of got hit in a funny spot," Duda said, per MLB.com. "I'll take [Monday] and play [Tuesday]."

With Cuddyer at first, Darrell Ceciliani draws a start in left field. After getting a day off on Sunday, catcher Kevin Plawecki returns to the lineup and will hit eighth. 


Juan Lagares scratched from Mets' lineup with injury

(5/24/2015) Mets center fielder Juan Lagares was a late scratch from Sunday's lineup. 

Lagares has nagging soreness in his armpit and elbow, per ESPN.

Darrell Ceciliani replaces Lagares in center, his first start of the year at that position. He'll bat seventh. 


Mets OF Darrell Ceciliani earns first major league start Saturday

(5/23/2015) Outfielder Darrell Ceciliani had been tearing it up at Triple-A before his promotion to the Mets. Now he will have an opportunity to tear it up in the big leagues - at least for one game.

Ceciliani has been given his first start in the majors Saturday in Pittsburgh. He will play left field.

The 24 year old, who was batting .336 in the minors, has one hit in three at-bats this season.


Mets designate outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis for assignment

(5/19/2015) The Mets have officially designated outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis for assignment on Tuesday, the team announced. Nieuwenhuis struggled as the team's fourth outfielder, collecting just three hits in 38 at-bats this season. 

In a corresponding move, the team has officially promoted fellow outfielder Darrell Ceciliani . Ceciliani was the team's fourth-round pick in the 2009 draft. In 37 games at Triple-A this season, he was batting .336 with five home runs, 17 RBI and six stolen bases. 


Mets recall SS Darrell Ceciliani from minors

Ceciliani is batting .339 at Triple-A. No corresponding roster move has been announced.
