by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Mets manager ready to choose primary first baseman

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Josh Satin in line for regular work against left-handed pitching

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(2/24/2014) Mets first baseman Josh Satin should see regular work against left-handed pitching regardless of who wins the starting job at the first base position, ESPNNewYork.com reports.

Satin excelled against southpaws last season, hitting .317/.404/.476 in 82 at-bats against left-handers. Conversley, both Ike Davis and Lucas Duda struggled to hit lefties last season. However, Satin had an elevated .424 batting average on balls in play against left-handers, which could signal some upcoming regression for the 29-year-old.

Josh Satin planning to learn outfield

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(9/3/2013) Mets first baseman Josh Satin will attempt to learn how to play the outfield this offseason, according to the New York Post

Satin planned to work with former Mets outfielder Marlon Byrd during the offseason, and hopes Byrd will still work with him after being dealt to the Pirates. Satin said he realizes that in order to receive consistent playing time with the club, he'll have to be more versatile.

Satin is hitting .297/.407/.434 in 145 at-bats.

(8/26/2013) Mets first baseman Josh Satin will start Monday against the Phillies.

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(8/14/2013) Mets infielder Josh Satin will likely receive a start at third base Wednesday against the Dodgers, according to the New York Daily News.

Josh Satin drives in two in start

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/3/2013) Mets infielder Josh Satin made his return to the starting lineup Saturday against the Royals, after being stuck to the bench for the previous five games.

He made an impact in the game, driving in two runs while going 2 for 5, with both runs coming on an RBI single in the eighth inning that tied the game, 3-3. The Mets would go on to lose, 4-3, in 12 innings, with Satin striking out twice.

Satin is hitting .308 on the season with 10 RBI and one home run in 91 at-bats.

Josh Satin a candidate for more playing time

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(7/17/2013) Mets first baseman Josh Satin could be a candidate for regular playing time in the second half, according to metsblog.com.

Manager Terry Collins admitted he's still trying to sort out playing time between Satin and Ike Davis. Satin has earned a shot at a larger role, hitting .361 in limited opportunities. Davis is considered to have the higher upside, and has shown flashes in the past, so that could lead to more playing time. At some point, though, production will win out, and Satin would be the guy in that scenario.

Josh Satin keeps raking for Mets

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/7/2013) Mets first baseman Josh Satin extended his hitting streak to 11 games Sunday at Milwaukee, going 3 for 4 with a run, RBI and two doubles.

He's batting .409 (18 for 44) with a home run, six RBI, six walks, seven runs and eight doubles in his last 11 games. Before Sunday, Mets manager Terry Collins said he had no plans to platoon Ike Davis and Satin at first base, despite Satin's streak.

No platoon at first base for Mets

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/7/2013) Mets first baseman Ike Davis was held out of the starting lineup Sunday against the Brewers for the first time since his recall from Triple-A Las Vegas Friday. While a left-hander was on the hill Sunday for Milwaukee, Mets manager Terry Collins said there is no platoon at first base and he just felt Josh Satin deserved a start.

Davis has been productive since his recall, batting .429 (3 for 7) with two RBI, four walks, three runs and one stolen base in two games. Satin, who started 11 straight games at first base prior to Davis' recall, has been equally impressive. He carried a 10-game hitting streak into Sunday, batting .375 (15 for 40) with one home run, six doubles, six walks, six runs and six RBI in that span.

Josh Satin could see time in outfield

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(7/5/2013) Mets first baseman Ike Davis' return to the lineup Friday means Josh Satin will likely see less playing time. Still, manager Terry Collins liked what Satin provided while Davis was in Triple-A, and will try to find extra at-bats for him, even if he has to play Satin in the outfield.

Satin has played just one game in the outfield in his career, but Collins appears willing to play him there against left-handed pitchers.

Satin is hitting .353 with a 1.017 OPS in 51 at-bats.

Josh Satin defying the skeptics

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/3/2013) Mets first baseman Josh Satin continued his offensive surge Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, hitting safely for an eighth straight game. Satin is batting .433 (13 for 30) with five walks, five RBI, five runs and six doubles in his last eight games.

Satin's emergence has impressed manager Terry Collins, according to the New York Post.

"I can honestly tell you when I came here as a field coordinator there weren’t many people who thought Josh Satin was going to do much at the major-league level," Collins said. "And all he did was continue to play and continue to hit at every level they put him. He never complained about any position: He played second, he’s played third, he’s played the outfield, he’s played first."

Josh Satin's numbers translating

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(7/2/2013) As a 28-year-old getting his first real crack at the majors, Josh Satin seems like a player to ignore in Fantasy, but in 15 games since his promotion, including nine straight as the Mets' starting first baseman, he has compiled a .511 on-base percentage.

The product of a small sample size? To a degree, yes, but Satin compiled a .420 on-base percentage in 59 games at Triple-A Las Vegas before getting the call. Considering his batting average was a relatively tame .305, he clearly knows how to work the count.

As far as Fantasy owners are concerned, an on-base specialist would be a better fit at second base or shortstop than first base, where power reigns supreme, but NL-only owners waiting for Ike Davis to return seemingly have an adequate fill-in in Satin.

Josh Satin raps three hits in extra-inning win

by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(7/2/2013) Mets first baseman Josh Satin recorded a trio of hits in an extra-inning win Monday against Arizona.

Satin finished 3 for 6 with a walk, two doubles and a run scored. The 28-year-old is now on a seven-game hitting streak and has his batting line up to .395/.511/.553.

Josh Satin gaining confidence at the plate

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6/29/2013) Mets first baseman Josh Satin admitted to feeling pressure recently, but told ESPN.com his improved play in recent weeks has been the result of his improved comfort level.

"When you come here and you don’t do well, you kind of second-guess," Satin said. "Do you belong? Can you play at this level? I always thought I could, but actually doing something on the field is different."

Satin showcased his newfound confidence Friday against the Nationals, matching a career-high with three hits in three at-bats. He added a walk and a pair of RBI in a 6-4 loss.

Satin has started five games in a row, and is batting .353 with two doubles, three RBI, four walks and only three strikeouts in 17 at-bats in that span.

'Outstanding' at-bats lead to start for Josh Satin

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/23/2013) Mets infielder Josh Satin has reached base safely in his last six plate appearances, so manager Terry Collins put him in the starting lineup at first base Sunday against the Phillies. Collins said Satin is likely to start again Tuesday against the White Sox as well.

"His at-bats have been outstanding," Collins said, per ESPN. "He's drawing bases on balls. He's working counts. He's getting hits. So I want to get him in there. From his brief time here so far I think he deserves an opportunity against left-handed pitching to get in the lineup."

Josh Satin gets the call

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(6/11/2013) Mets first baseman Josh Satin was called up to the bigs Tuesday.

The move was expected after the team demoted a couple players following Sunday's loss. Satin has 26 major-league at-bats over his career, but none in the majors this year. He has a .305/.420/.491 slash line at Triple-A Las Vegas.

Mets will promote Josh Satin

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(6/9/2013) The Mets are expected to call up first baseman Josh Satin from Triple-A Las Vegas Monday, according to ESPN. Satin hit .305/.420/.491 with nine homers and 32 RBI in 59 games in the minors.

Blooming Wilmer Flores among Mets' cuts

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(3/15/2013) The New York Mets continued trimming their roster Friday by sending infielder Wilmer Flores, first baseman Josh Satin and pitcher Carlos Torres to their minor-league camp. Flores, one of the team's top prospects, is the only player among the group on the 40-man roster. Flores, 21, spent most of the spring playing second base as he continued his transition from third base.

Satin sent back to minors

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(6/8/2012) The New York Mets outrighted first baseman Josh Satin to Triple-A Buffalo on Friday after he successfully cleared waivers. Satin was designated for assignment on Wednesday after appearing in just one game with the Mets following his promotion earlier this week.
