Marlins release Henry Rodriguez

(6/11/2014) The Marlins released pitcher Henry Rodriguez from Triple-A New Orleans Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Rodriguez made two appearances with the Marlins earlier this season, giving up two earned runs in 1 2/3 innings while striking out one and dishing out five walks. He posted a 4.26 ERA and 41:38 K:BB ratio in 25 1/3 innings with New Orleans.

Rodriguez only pitched in two games with the club, giving up two earned runs. He was called up May 11, and lasted less than a week in the majors.

(5/14/2014) With the Marlins in need of a pitching shakeup, the team made a few moves following Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.

The organization optioned reliever Dan Jennings back to Triple-A New Orleans, while simultaneously designating reliever Henry Rodriguez for assignment.

One of those roster spots will likely be used for the callup of Wednesday's starter, Anthony DeSclafani. The corresponding moves will come before Wednesday's game.

Rodriguez was 3 for 16 with one walk in 10 games this spring. He hit .274/.319/.335 with four home runs and 41 RBI in 478 at-bats with Triple-A Louisville last season.

Rodriguez has been delayed by visa issues. He was a non-roster invite to camp, and will have an uphill battle if he hopes to make the opening day roster. Rodriguez had a 4.09 ERA in 22 innings last season.
