Alex Castellanos outrighted to Triple-A El Paso

(4/28/2014) Padres outfielder Alex Castellanos has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A El Paso, MLBDailyDish.com reports.

Castellanos didn't make an appearance with the Padres before being designated for assignment. He has hit .200/.314/.333 with one home run, five RBI and three stolen bases in 60 at-bats with El Paso.

Castellanos was designated for assignment Wednesday. San Diego has moved pither Cory Luebke to the 60-day disabled list in order to make room for Castellanos on the 40-man roster.

The team officially signed pitcher Joe Saunders, and needed to make room on the 40-man roster. Castellanos hit .167 in 18 at-bats with the Dodgers last season. He was claimed by Texas in December.

(12/23/2013) The Rangers announced on Monday that they claimed outfielder Alex Castellanos off waivers from the Red Sox. Castellanos had been designated for assignment earlier this month to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for first baseman Mike Napoli.

Castellanos spent the last two-plus season in the Dodgers' organization, and he appeared in eight games for the Dodgers in 2013.

Castellanos was acquired from the Dodgers late in October after being designated for assignment, and now the Red Sox will try to sneak him through waivers before sending him to the minors. Castellanos was hitting .270 with an .850 OPS for Albuquerque in 43 games. He hit .174 in 23 at-bats for the Dodgers last year.
