Rays RP Steven Geltz pushes streak to 28 consecutive outs

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/23/2015) After retiring the side in order in the ninth inning Monday against the Blue Jays, Rays reliever Steven Geltz has now retired the last 28 batters he has faced.

“It’s pretty special just to be able to do something like that,” Geltz said, per The Tampa Tribune.

Geltz bested the previous team record of 26 consecutive batters retired by Kyle Farnsworth, who accomplished the feat in 2011.

“All the credit goes to the guys behind me,” he said. “It wouldn’t be possible without them making plays. I didn’t go out there and strike out 28 guys, so it’s all credit to them. Being able to have that confidence that they’re behind me making plays, it makes it that much easier.”
