(5/20/2014) The Angels optioned infielder Luis Jimenez to Triple-A Salt Lake Tuesday upon activating David Freese from the disabled list.

Jimenez is just 4 of 25 with the Angels this season. He returns to a .265/.308/.540 line with eight home runs and 17 RBI in 113 at-bats with Salt Lake.

(5/11/2014) Although X-rays reportedly came back negative on Ian Stewart's hand, the Angels third baseman is headed for the disabled list, reports the Los Angeles Times. The paper says Luis Jimenez could be promoted from Triple A-Salt Lake.

Stewart was hit on the hand while swinging at a pitch in the seventh inning Sunday.

Rasmus made his major-league debut last season but has yet to appear in a major-league game in 2014. He owns a 2.76 ERA and 13:10 K:BB ratio in 16 1/3 innings with Salt Lake. Jimenez went 0 for 3 in his only appearance with the Angels before being optioned.


Angels announce several moves Saturday

(5/3/2014) The Angels announced several roster moves prior to Saturday's game against the Rangers, the Orange County Register reports. Outfielder J.B Shuck was optioned down to Triple-A Salt Lake City while first baseman C.J. Cron and third baseman Luis Jimenez were called up from Triple-A and inserted into the starting lineup.


Cron is considered as one of the team's top prospects. The 24-year-old .319 with six home runs and 26 RBI in the minors this season. Jimenez hit .304 with seven homers and 15 RBI at Triple-A.

Jimenez went 5 for 10 over the last two days in the for the team's Rookie-level Arizona League team. He hit .297/.343/.422 with three home runs, 21 RBI and eight stolen bases in 128 at-bats with Triple-A Salt Lake.

(4/30/2013) Angels third baseman Luis Jimenez is expected to miss Tuesday's game at Oakland after sustaining a bruised left shin during the series opener Monday, MLB.com reports. Jimenez suffered the injury when he was hit by a throw on an eventual infield single in the fifth inning and was removed three innings later.

Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said after the game Jimenez's shin was "pretty stiff." He finished 1 for 3 with a run scored before the early exit.

Jimenez, who has hit .333 this season, is trying to make a case to stay with the big-league club when Alberto Callaspo returns from the disabled list, which could happen late next week.

(4/21/2013) Angels infielder Luis Jimenez, who has filled in nicely for Alberto Callaspo at third base while the starter has been injured, has provided a much-needed spark for his Los Angeles teammates, the Los Angeles Daily News reports. 

In fact, Jimenez considers it his duty to lift up the Angels. "That's part of my job, too," Jimenez said. "Wherever I am, I try to be the most fired-up guy there."

The 25-year-old out of the Dominican Republic has hit .435 over his first 23 at-bats with three doubles and seven runs scored over seven games. He's recorded at least one hit in six straight games since starting 0 for 3. 

"I don't know if he's going to keep the pace up, but there's no doubt he's a good hitter," manager Mike Scioscia said. "We're going to look forward to getting Alberto Callaspo back in the fold, but anytime a player plays well you're carving out a role for yourself as you continue to perform."
