(12/19/2014) The Cubs have claimed former Boston catcher Ryan Lavarnway off waivers. They have also desginated for assignment right-hander Donn Roach and infielder Logan Watkins.

Lavarnway was hitless in 10 at-bats for the Red Sox in 2014 after missing extended time with a broken wrist.

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/12/2014) The Cubs announced Wednesday they claimed pitcher Donn Roach off waivers from the Padres. He was added to the 40-man roster.

Roach went 1-0 with a 4.75 ERA in 16 appearances (one start) with the Padres last season.

Padres reshape roster with four moves Tuesday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6/3/2014)  The Padres made a flurry of moves Tuesday, swapping out two players on the active roster prior to action.

Pitcher Eric Stults was placed on the bereavement list, while fellow pitcher Donn Roach was optioned to Triple-A El Paso. In their open roster spots, pitcher Jesse Hahn was recalled from Double-A San Antonio, while pitcher Jason Lane had his contract purchased from El Paso.

Padres expected to start Billy Buckner, not Donn Roach Saturday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/23/2014) Though he was expected to make his second start Saturday against the Cubs, it looks like Donn Roach won't be used in that role for the Padres this weekend.

MLB.com reports Friday Billy Buckner is expected to get the call for the Padres to start Saturday, with Roach available out of the bullpen instead. Buckner has been pitching at Triple-A El Paso since signing a minor-league deal with the Padres, and will likely be added prior to Saturday's game, according to the report.

Roach has appeared in 13 games this season, including one start which saw him throw just three innings. The decision was likely made in order to get a pitcher who is already stretched out into the starting role, since the Padres had to get four-plus innings from the bullpen Thursday.

Donn Roach set for at least one more start

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/20/2014) Padres pitcher Donn Roach will make his second start of the season Saturday against the Cubs, but that may be the last time he fills in for an injured Andrew Cashner for a few weeks.

Roach's next turn in the rotation is the last time the team needs a fifth starter until June 3 against the Pirates, according to MLB.com. Cashner might still need time to recover from an elbow injury beyond that, though it might not be much time, after an MRI came back and showed no structural damage.

Donn Roach lasts only three innings in first start

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5/18/2014) Padres pitcher Donn Roach made his first career start on Sunday, but failed to factor into the decision of a 8-6 defeat to the Rockies in extras.

Roach surrendered four runs on four hits and two walks while striking with no strikeouts in three innings of work. He tossed 46 pitches, 25 for strikes. He owns a 3.75 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP in 24 innings pitched this season. If he remains in the rotation, Roach will make his next start Saturday at home against the Cubs.

Donn Roach likely on 60-pitch limit Sunday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/17/2014) The Padres won't expect a big workload from rookie Donn Roach in his first start Sunday against the Rockies, as he was plucked out of the bullpen to replace Andrew Cashner in the rotation.

"He can probably give us 60 pitches that we can feel good about," manager Bud Black told MLB.com Saturday. "He threw two innings the other night and had two days off. He has started in his past and he's got a sinkerball where, if it's working, he should be efficient. We'll find out tomorrow."

Roach has a 2.57 ERA in 21 innings for the Padres, all as a reliever. Whether he will remain in Cashner's place in the rotation moving forward is not yet known.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(5/17/2014) Padres pitcher Donn Roach will get the starting nod Sunday afternoon against the Rockies at Coors Field, U-T San Diego reports. Roach owns a 2.57 ERA and 13:8 K:BB ratio in 21 innings.

Donn Roach excels in long-relief role Tuesday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/30/2014) Padres pitcher Donn Roach surrendered just one unearned run on two hits in 4 1/3 innings in his team's 6-0 loss to the Giants Tuesday.

Roach came in to squash a third-inning rally then performed well through the next four innings. He also managed his first career hit, smacking a double in the sixth inning. Roach owns a 2.84 ERA and 4:5 K:BB ratio in 12 2/3 innings.

Donn Roach a candidate for Padres' bullpen

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/23/2014) Padres manager Bud Black said pitcher Donn Roach is a candidate for the team's bullpen, likely as a long reliever, according to U-T San Diego. If he doesn't make the opening day roster, then Roach will start the season in the rotation at Triple-A El Paso.

Padres add three to 40-man roster, DFA four

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Sampson went 12-7 with a 3.57 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 135:62 K:BB ratio in 141 1/3 innings between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tuscon last season. Oramas went 3-2 with a 3.07 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 64:16 K:BB ratio in 55 2/3 innings over 12 starts with Double-A San Antonio. by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(3/17/2013) The San Diego Padres further trimmed their roster Sunday, reassigning pitchers Brandon Kloess and Donn Roach to their minor-league camp. Neither player was expected to crack the opening day roster.

Roach, who was acquired in a trade in May from Los Angeles, has toss 105 1/3 innings, a 50 percent increase over his total from the previous season.
