Braves bring Luis Avilan back from Triple-A

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/14/2014) The Braves recalled pitcher Luis Avilan from Triple-A Gwinnett prior to Thursday's game, the team announced.

Avilan has struggled with the Braves, posting a 4.85 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 29 2/3 innings before he was sent down in late July. He allowed seven earned runs in 11 2/3 innings at Triple-A as well.

Braves make few roster moves Saturday

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(7/19/2014) The Braves announced a pair of roster moves prior to Saturday's game against the Phillies. They purchased the contract of left-hander Chasen Shreve from Double-A Mississippi and optioned left-hander Luis Avilan back down to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Luis Avilan gives up five runs, gets win Monday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/14/2014) Braves pitcher Luis Avilan surrendered five earned runs in the eighth inning of Monday's game against the Phillies to turn a 5-1 lead into a 6-5 deficit, but he was handed the win when the Braves scored four in the ninth inning of the team's 9-6 win.

Avilan (3-1) has recorded a decision in each of his last three outings, and he really deserved to be hit with a loss Monday after giving up four hits, one walk and one home run while trying to hold a lead. He owns a 13.50 ERA and 4:4 K:BB ratio in four innings this season.

Luis Avilan earns second relief win

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4/12/2014) Braves reliever Luis Avilan picked up his second win of the season in relief Friday, in a 7-6 extra-innings victory over the Nationals.

Avilan pitched a scoreless 10th inning to pick up the win, though it wasn't necessarily easy. He had to pitch around a pair of walks, including with the go-ahead run on second with two out.

Avilan got himself out of the jam and the offense broke the tie in the next frame to get him the win. Avilan is now 2-1 in six appearances, with one run allowed in three total innings of work.

Luis Avilan available out of bullpen Wednesday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/9/2014) Braves pitcher Luis Avilan is available out of the bullpen Wednesday after suffering a hamstring cramp the previous night, MLB.com reports.

Avilan felt "great" after an early bullpen session Wednesday, and he said Tuesday he'd be 100 percent for Wednesday's game. Avilan has recorded one out in each of his four appearances this season.

Luis Avilan leaves with hamstring cramp

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4/8/2014) Braves reliever Luis Avilan was forced to leave Tuesday's game against the Mets after just one-third of an inning, due to a left hamstring cramp.

Avilan allowed two hits on eight pitches before being forced to leave with a trainer. The injury does not seem too severe at this point, and he will likely be considered day to day moving forward.

Luis Avilan finds his comfort zone

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/10/2013) Braves reliever Luis Avilan carried a 20-inning scoreless streak into Wednesday's game at Miami. Avilan, who has 13 holds this season, has lowered his ERA from 3.06 to 1.43 during his prolonged scoreless streak.

In fact, Avilan has been a reliable arm since making his MLB debut in 2012. He is 3-0 with a 1.71 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 73 career outings (73 2/3 innings).

"I remember my first couple outings in the big leagues," Avilan said, per MLB.com. "I was so shy and scared about what I was supposed to do. Right now, I feel comfortable about what I'm doing and what I have to do."

Luis Avilan overcomes hamstring issue

by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com
(4/21/2013) Braves pitcher Luis Avilan (1-0) completed a scoreless inning of relief during his first appearance since working past a hamstring injury that plagued him last week. Avilan replaced Luis Ayala in the seventh inning and surrendered a single and a walk during his first appearance since last Tuesday.

Luis Avilan likely to pitch Sunday

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/20/2013) Braves relief pitcher Luis Avilan, who is working his way back from a hamstring issue, could be available to return Sunday against the Pirates, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Avilan is available as an emergency option Saturday night.

Avilan, who is hoping to avoid the disabled list, has not pitched in a game since Tuesday. He has allowed a run in 4 1/3 innings.

Luis Avilan takes step in right direction

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4/19/2013) Braves relief pitcher Luis Avilan jogged without discomfort Friday, as he attempts to recover from a hamstring injury. Avilan also tossed a 25-pitch bullpen session that manager Fredi Gonzalez described as "just okay" in an interview with MLB.com.

The team is hoping Avilan can avoid a disabled list trip, but they have not confirmed that yet. Avilan had allowed just one run in 4 1/3 innings of work, prior to suffering the injury.

Luis Avilan might end up on DL

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/18/2013) Injured Braves reliever Luis Avilan (hamstring) had some trouble when he attempted to jog Thursday afternoon, but the team is willing to give him a few more days before making a decision about his status, according to MLB.com. If Avilan doesn't improve over the weekend, then the team will consider putting him on the disabled list.

"We're trying to hold on," manager Fredi Gonzalez told MLB.com, on the decision to put him on the disabled list. "He's making a little bit of progress. [Head athletic trainer Jeff Porter] told me he went out there and really couldn't run. But obviously, we'll try to keep him progressing the best we can. If we get in a situation where we play 12 innings today and we need the extra arm tomorrow, we'll make the move."

by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com
(4/17/2013) Braves reliever Luis Avilan is hopeful he will avoid the disabled list despite suffering a left hamstring strain in Tuesday night's game, MLB.com reports.

Avilan believes the injury was just a cramp. The Braves, however, have yet to make a final decision whether or not to place Avilan on the disabled list.

Luis Avilan exits with hamstring strain

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/16/2013) Braves reliever Luis Avilan was forced out of Tuesday's contest against the Royals due to a left hamstring strain.

Avilan entered the game in the ninth and lasted just two-thirds of an inning before exiting the game with the strain and cramping. He was charged with one hit and one run before leaving the game.

The left-hander is expected to be re-evaluated Wednesday, according to the team's official website.
