by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (4:41 pm ET) The Yankees recalled outfielder Zoilo Almonte from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Tuesday before beginning a series against the Dodgers. The 24-year-old was batting .297 with six homers, 36 RBI and a .789 OPS over 68 games at Triple-A.
Almonte, a switch-hitter, will be used as an extra outfielder off the bench and in pinch-running situations.
Almonte had a hit in all eight games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and batted .355 with two homers and a league-high seven RBI. He's batting .293 on the season, but the switch-hitter is batting .299 against righties and .273 against lefties.

New York is expected to search internally for possible candidates, including Matt Diaz and Juan Rivera. But what about blossoming outfield prospect Zoilo Almonte, who blasted a home run in his first spring game Saturday? "There’s going to be guys here who are going to get to play a lot," manager Joe Girardi said. "We’ll have to try to figure out what we’re going to do. Is it a situation where it’s a guy who plays every day? Is it a platoon situation? There’s some things we’re going to have to look at."

Almonte started in right field in the game and went 1 for 3 with a two-run homer off Jordan Walden in the third inning. He also struck out in the game for the Yankees.
