Endy Chavez scores three times in blowout

(7/2/2014) Mariners outfielder Endy Chavez had just one hit Tuesday, but still managed to score three runs in 13-2 win over the Astros.

Chavez reached base three times in the game, going 1 for 3 with a pair of walks. He scored each time he reached, while adding a double in the blowout win.

Chavez has filled in nicely for the Mariners since joining the team, hitting .266/.300/.404 with 12 runs in 94 at-bats.  


Endy Chavez recalled from Triple-A Tacoma

(5/30/2014) Mariners outfielder Endy Chavez was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma prior to Friday's game against the Tigers. Chavez was inserted into the starting lineup and will be playing left field in his first game of the season, per the Seattle Times.

(3/25/2014) Mariners outfielder Endy Chavez has signed a minor-league deal with the club, according to the Tacoma News Tribune

Chavez was released by the club after he was told he wasn't going to make the opening day roster. He was due a bonus, which is why the team let him go. Chavez still wanted to remain in the organization, and the two sides were able to hammer out a deal.

(1/22/2014) The Mariners and outfielder Endy Chavez have agreed to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training, ESPN.com reports.

Chavez played in 97 games with the Mariners last season, hitting .267/.290/.327 with two home runs and 14 RBI in 266 at-bats. He played all over the outfield last season, making at least 16 appearances in each of the three spots in the outfield, and he hit .271/.300/.347 in 199 at-bats against right-handed pitching.

He'll be competing during spring training to fill a similar role in 2014, but the team's multiple outfield acquisitions during the offseason may make it an uphill battle for Chavez, who turns 36 in February.

(7/22/2013) Mariners outfielder Endy Chavez appeared as a pinch hitter during Sunday's game against the Astros. 

Chavez had left Thursday's game with a groin injury. Manager Eric Wedge had said Chavez would be available off the bench Friday, but didn't appear until Sunday. He's hitting .278/.302/.345 in 223 at-bats.

(6/23/2013) Mariners outfielder Endy Chavez clubbed two hits, including his seventh double, and scored one run Saturday against the Athletics. It was his sixth multi-hit game in June.

Chavez, who has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, is batting .306 (22 for 72) with three RBI, four doubles and 10 runs in his 19 June games (16 starts).

(5/20/2013) Mariners outfielder Endy Chavez delivered a pinch-hit home run leading off the ninth inning Monday at Cleveland, giving Seattle a 7-6 lead. Unfortunately, closer Tom Wilhelmsen allowed Cleveland to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.

It was Chavez's first home run since July 16 of last season. Chavez is batting .289 with five RBI through 26 games.

(4/23/2013) The Mariners are expected to give outfielder Endy Chavez the bulk of the playing time in center field with Franklin Gutierrez on the disabled list, MLB.com reports Tuesday. Jason Bay will back him up at the position. 

Chavez will man center until Michael Saunders can come off the DL and take over the spot. 

The 35-year-old Chavez is 2 for 9 with a double and an RBI in his last two starts and is batting .241 with two RBI in 29 at-bats. 

The 34-year-old Bay has 38 at-bats entering Tuesday's game in Houston and is hitting .184 with a homer and two RBI. He's struck out 14 times.

(4/18/2013) Mariners outfielder Endy Chavez drew his fourth start of the season Thursday against the Tigers.

The 35-year-old singled in a run in the seventh inning to give the Mariners a two-run advantage. It was his first RBI of the season. Chavez reached base three times as he finished 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI in a 2-0 victory.

Chavez is hitting .313 over his first 16 at-bats.
