(7/20/2014) Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said third baseman Eric Chavez's injured knee isn't improving and he is unsure if Chavez will be back in 2014, per MLB.com.

"It's just something that they have kind of been aggressive at up to this point, and they're not being as aggressive at trying to get that thing to feel better," Gibson said.

"They know I like it here," said Chavez, who has lived in Arizona most of his professional career. "This is home, my kids are here, spring training’s five minutes from my house. It’s a given that I would want to come back. How things move forward and how they would want to put together a team, that’s a whole different animal."

The 35-year-old Chavez is third on the team with 43 RBI despite playing just 73 of 145 games entering Tuesday.

(8/14/2013) Diamondbacks third baseman Eric Chavez (knee) hopes to begin working his way back into game shape this weekend when Arizona returns from a 10-game road trip, reports The Arizona Republic.

"This left knee has been basically bugging me for close to three weeks," Chavez said. "Just doing extra cardio and stuff, and I think that’s why it got flared up and had a lot of fluid in it. Just hitting was causing the problem with the hip."

Chavez had his knee drained and received a cortisone injection Monday. He took another injection to his hip Tuesday.

"The needle was actually worse than the hip," he said.

Chavez hit a two-run home run in the third inning of the game and added an RBI single in the seven, finishing with thee RBI. Chavez went 2 for 4 with a run scored, a walk and a strikeout.

Chavez has nine home runs on the season, but just two of them came in the month of July, and both came on the month's final two days.

Chavez tripled in a run in the sixth and singled two more in the seventh. He finished 2 for 4 with a run scored and three RBI in a 10-4 win. He is hitting .236 (9 for 38) with seven RBI in 13 games (seven starts) since coming off the disabled list in late June. He has a .303/.345/.533 slash line in 152 at-bats.
