News: The Dodgers reassigned OF Gabe Kapler to minor-league camp after Wednesday's spring finale against the Mariners.
Analysis: While Kapler has a ton of MLB experience, he just couldn't land a reserve outfield spot with the Dodgers. Even if he lands with another team down the road, Kapler will likely see minimal at-bats and there is no need to hold onto him in Fantasy.
News: Dodgers OF Gabe Kapler went 1 for 2 with two RBI and a run scored in Los Angeles' 7-5 Cactus League victory over Colorado on Thursday. Kapler, 35, replaced Xavier Paul in the top of the seventh inning and flied out in his first at-bat of the game. He recorded a key double during the Dodgers' seven-run ninth inning to give him his first multi-RBI game of the spring and seven total.
Analysis: Kapler seems to be in the same situation every spring lately -- battling for a reserve outfield spot. The veteran, who signed a minor-league contract in January after spending the last two seasons with Tampa Bay, is now hitting .286 with four extra-base hits in Cactus League action. He's been getting plenty of playing time this spring, but will not receive the same amount in the regular season. Leave him untouched in 2011 Fantasy drafts.
News: The Dodgers signed OF Gabe Kapler to a minor-league deal on Tuesday. Kapler spent the last couple seasons in the Rays organization, but he hit only .210 with two homers last season.
Analysis: Kapler has made a niche for himself as a platoon player, and the Dodgers are looking for someone to platoon with Jay Gibbons in left field. Marcus Thames is the favorite, of course, but Kapler could win a reserve role. Even if he does, the 35-year-old likely won't get enough at-bats to make an impact in Fantasy.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler (ankle) was not activated on Sept. 1 when rosters expanded. There remains no concrete timetable for a return.
Analysis: Kapler will get nothing more than token at-bats or starts down the stretch. Consider him merely a deeper AL-only reserve, once activated.
News: From The Sports Xchange notes: OF Gabe Kapler, who had been at his southern California home while on the DL with a mild right ankle sprain, rejoined the Rays in Anaheim. He said he expects to be ready right around Sept. 1, when rosters are expanded.
Analysis: Kapler will get nothing more than token at-bats or starts down the stretch. Consider him merely a deeper AL-only reserve, once activated.
News: From The Sports Xchange notes: OF Gabe Kapler was placed on the 15-day DL with a mild right ankle sprain as the Rays needed to make room on the roster for the return of 1B Carlos Pena. Kapler, who has struggled throughout the season and has just a .210 average, is likely to return after the Sept. 1 roster expansion. "It's just one of those things that I want to take care of now rather than later," Kapler said.
Analysis: Kapler is nothing more than a low-end reserve outfielder for the Rays and the deepest of AL-only leagues, when healthy. Ignore him while is on the DL.
News: The Rays placed OF Gabe Kapler on the 15-day disabled list with a right ankle sprain. Kapler sustained the injury during Saturday's game with the Orioles when he collided with Baltimore catcher Matt Wieters. "I just pushed off with my right foot and felt a little twist there," Kapler told MLB.com. "It is what it is -- a mild ankle sprain." 1B Carlos Pena took his place on the 25-man roster, as he was activated from the DL prior to Monday's game against Texas.
Analysis: Kapler had been playing only sporadically, and with diminished productivity, he has been a stopgap option in deeper AL-only leagues at best. Now that he is on the DL, he can be dropped in practically all formats, as his production can be replaced from available options on waivers.
News: OF Gabe Kapler put the Rays ahead 2-0 with a two-run single in the fourth inning on Saturday against the Indians. That would be his lone hit of the day, as he finished 1 for 4.
Analysis: Kapler was taken off the disabled list at the end of June, and since his return is batting .250(3 for 12) with four RBI in July. In limited playing time, Kapler has one home run and 12 RBI. That doesn't speak volumes for his Fantasy value. Continue to leave him on the waiver wire in all formats.
News: The Rays designated Hank Blalock for assignment after Tuesday's game against the Red Sox. Tampa Bay activated Gabe Kapler (hip) from the 15-day DL to take Blalock's roster spot.
Analysis: The Rays were thinking about bringing Kapler off the DL before Tuesday's game, but they made the transaction hours later. Kapler is a nice veteran presence off the bench for the Rays, but he likely won't see nearly enough playing time to be worth worrying about in Fantasy play. Keep him on the waiver wire in all formats.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler (hip) was not activated for Tuesday's game in Boston after it had been anticipated that it was a possibility. The St. Petersburg Times reports that Kapler remains "really close" to being activated and manager Joe Maddon did not rule out a return on Wednesday.
Analysis: Kapler is a nice veteran presence off the bench for the Rays, but he won't see nearly enough playing time to be worth worrying about in Fantasy play. Keep him on the waiver wire in all formats.
News: The St. Pete Times reports that Rays OF Gabe Kapler (hip) could be activated before Tuesday's game at Boston. Kapler last played on June 11.
Analysis: Kapler is a nice veteran presence off the bench for the Rays, but he won't see nearly enough playing time to be worth worrying about in Fantasy play.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler went 0 for 2 with a walk for Class A Charlotte on Friday. He has been on the DL since June 12 with a strained right hip flexor and is expected to play through the weekend before being activated. "Kap's going to go Port Charlotte for like a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday -- kind of a four-day plan," Rays manager Joe Maddon told MLB.com on Thursday. "I think they're playing in Fort Myers, too. It's four days that we have set up, and we'll evaluate it after that to see how he's doing." Kapler was batting .217 with one homer and eight RBI before landing on the DL.
Analysis: Kapler is expected back early in Week 13 (June 28-July 4), if he doesn't suffer a setback. "He's feeling pretty good," Maddon said. "Everything is going well. I'm confident that he should be pretty much on schedule." Kapler has just one hit in 12 at-bats in June and will serve as a reserve once activated from the DL. His Fantasy value lies only in the deepest of AL-only formats, when healthy.
News: MLB.com reports Rays OF Gabe Kapler (hip) is set to begin a rehab assignment with Class A Port Charlotte on Friday. "Kap's going to go Port Charlotte for like a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday -- kind of a four-day plan," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "I think they're playing in Fort Myers, too. It's four days that we have set up, and we'll evaluate it after that to see how he's doing."
Analysis: Kapler is expected back early in Week 13 (June 28-July 4), if he doesn't suffer a setback. "He's feeling pretty good," Maddon said. "Everything is going well. I'm confident that he should be pretty much on schedule." Kapler was hitting just .217 with one homer and eight RBI in 38 games before getting injured. He is mostly a bat off the bench for Tampa Bay, so he is best left as an AL-only Fantasy reserve.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler, who has been out with a strained right hip flexor since June 12, could begin a rehab assignment for Class A Port Charlotte as soon as Friday, according to MLB.com. Kapler had been playing through the injury before deciding to go on the DL. "It's just been one of those things where the timing was right to take care of it," Kapler said. "It was something that I felt first in spring training, then kind of bothered me intermittently. Then it got to a point where it was hurting enough where we said, 'Let's get this taken care of now.'"
Analysis: The rehab assignment would last about four days, meaning Kapler has the potential to return sometime in Fantasy Week 13 (June 28-July 4). He's just a platoon player, though -- and not an especially good one. Don't bother with him outside of the deepest of AL-only leagues.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hip flexor on Saturday and OF Justin Ruggiano was recalled from Triple-A Durham. "I'm not exactly sure when or how [Kapler's injury] happened," Maddon said. "But it's something we want to take care of -- he's a big part of what we do -- and make sure that he's well by the middle to the end of the season." Kapler has a .217 batting average with one homer and eight RBI in 38 games.
Analysis: Kapler did not have a starting job in Tampa Bay and was only used on occasion. His lack of regular at-bats makes him a non-factor in most Fantasy formats, even when healthy. Continue to ignore the .269 lifetime hitter.
News: Rays OF Carl Crawford returned to the starting lineup posted for Wednesday's game against Toronto. Gabe Kapler, who replaced him in left field on Tuesday night, returned to the bench.
Analysis: Kapler has been used here and there by the Rays in the outfield, but his lack of regular at-bats makes him a player to avoid. Frankly, we wouldn't be recommending the veteran journeyman even if he did find his way into regular playing time.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler got the start Tuesday over Carl Crawford as Tampa Bay faced the Blue Jays. Kapler is 0 for 13 since May 25.
Analysis: Kapler is a nice veteran reserve outfielder for the Rays, but he doesn't get nearly enough at-bats to be worth owning in Fantasy play at the moment.
News: Tampa Bay do-everything player Ben Zobrist did not start against the White Sox on Saturday. Zobrist was just getting an off day as Gabe Kapler got the start in right field. Kapler's last hit came on May 23 at Houston in interleague play. He's batting .254 on the year.
Analysis: Kapler is batting .254 on the season for the Rays and plays sparingly. He is not a Fantasy option to use in mixed leagues and is low-end even in AL-only formats.
News: Tampa Bay SS Reid Brignac entered Wednesday's game having struck out all three times he has come to the plate thus far in the series against the Red Sox. Brignac got the start on Wednesday with Ben Zobrist moving to the outfield and Gabe Kapler sitting out. Kapler went 0 for 3 with a strikeout in Tuesday's game.
Analysis: Kapler is batting .254 on the season for the Rays and plays sparingly. He is not a Fantasy option to use in mixed leagues and is low-end even in AL-only formats.
News: Tampa Bay 2B Sean Rodriguez made his fourth start over a seven-game span on Sunday against the Houston Astros. Rodriguez started as Gabe Kapler went to the bench. Kapler has made three starts in the last seven games for the Rays.
Analysis: Kapler is 3 for 4 over his last two games but is still batting just .258 on the year over 62 at-bats. Kapler is a reserve outfielder for the Rays. He is best left for deeper AL-only Fantasy leagues.
News: OF Gabe Kapler was inserted into the Rays lineup on Thursday against the Yankees. He got the start in right field, as Ben Zobrist moved back to second base.
Analysis: Kapler got the start since Andy Pettitte was on the hill. Kapler is a lifetime .280 against the veteran lefty, so manager Joe Maddon was playing the averages. Kapler is a reserve outfielder for the Rays. He is best left for deeper AL-only Fantasy leagues.
News: Rays OF Carl Crawford was not in the starting lineup posted for Tuesday's afternoon game against Cleveland. He was replaced in the field by Gabe Kapler.
Analysis: Kapler has been in the lineup for four straight games now, but he has appeared in just 22 of 38 games to this point with 54 at-bats and Fantasy owners shouldn't look to him as even a short-term stopgap measure for his lack of regular playing time and offensive upside.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler was in the starting lineup posted for Saturday's game against the Mariners. It was his first start in four days.
Analysis: Kapler does not get everyday at-bats for the Rays. He has appeared in just 19 games to this point with 47 at-bats and Fantasy owners shouldn't look to him as even a short-term stopgap measure for his lack of regular playing time and offensive upside.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler, in the lineup against a left-hander as usual Tuesday, was back on the bench with right-hander Jered Weaver on the mound Wednesday at the Angels.
Analysis: Kapler has a history of performing well against lefties, so the Rays rearrange their lineup to accommodate him whenever they face one. The arrangement hasn't worked so well for him so far. He's batting only .234 (11 for 47). Leave him for deeper AL-only leagues.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler was in the posted lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels. He started in right field in place of Ben Zobrist, who got the nod at first base.
Analysis: Kapler doesn't see enough plate appearances (43 at-bats this season) or contribute when he does get up to bat (.233 with one homer and one stolen base). He has little if any Fantasy value in the deepest of formats.
News: Tampa Bay OF Gabe Kapler started on Sunday against the Oakland A's in the Bay Area. Kapler got the start in the outfield with Ben Zobrist moving back to the infield and Reid Brignac taking a seat on the bench.
Analysis: Kapler has only made 38 at-bats this season and is hitting .237 with a homer and six runs driven in. He is not viable in mixed Fantasy leagues and barely should be thought of in AL-only formats.
News: Tampa Bay CF B.J. Upton was given Tuesday off to start a series in Seattle, reports the St. Petersburg Times. Instead, Ben Zobrist moved to center field and Gabe Kapler got the start in right.
Analysis: Kapler is hitting .222 this season over 27 at-bats with a double, a home run and four RBI. He doesn't play enough to warrant Fantasy use even in the deepest of AL-only leagues.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler got his 10th outfield start of the season Wednesday in the finale of a two-game series against the A's.
Analysis: Kapler has hit .208 in 24 at-bats this season and remains just a reserve outfielder for the Rays. Continue to ignore him in Fantasy play.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler was in the starting lineup for the second straight game on Saturday against the Blue Jays. Kapler hit his first home run of the year in Friday night's 6-5 loss.
Analysis: Another start for Kapler after scoring two runs the night before. He is not the everyday starter for the Rays, though, so he doesn't not have much Fantasy value at this time.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler hit his first home run of the season on Friday night against the Blue Jays. His two-run shot in the seventh inning chased Toronto's starter Brett Cecil from the game and pulled the Rays within two. Kapler finished the game 2 for 3 with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk in the 6-5 loss.
Analysis: How much longer can Kapler play at this level? The journeyman turns 35 this season and continues to contribute wherever he goes. He doesn't have a starting job with the Rays, so at-bats may be scarce for him going forward. The veteran does not have much Fantasy appeal as a role player.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler was listed as the starting right fielder in the lineup posted for Tuesday's series opener against the White Sox in Chicago. For Kapler, it was his fourth start of the season and second in his last three days.
Analysis: Kapler is not in a situation where he should see regular at-bats, but manager Joe Maddon is looking to get him into the lineup here and there. The veteran does not have much Fantasy appeal as a role player, however.
News: The Rays signed reserve outfielder Gabe Kapler to a one-year contract extension Tuesday.
Analysis: Kapler was once retired, but he has proven to be a useful reserve outfielder, for the Rays at least. For Fantasy purposes, he is nothing more than a seldom-used reserve for the deepest of AL-only leagues. He is a last-round pick at best in those formats, too.
News: From The Sports Xchange notes: OF Gabe Kapler, OF/INF Ben Zobrist, 3B Evan Longoria and Willy Aybar all homered Monday as the Rays broke and then extended the team record for homers in a season to 193.
Analysis: Longoria has lived up to out lofty expectations in his first full season in the majors. There were times he looked like the best third baseman in Fantasy and he will be a potential first-round pick in 2010. Kaper and Aybar are AL-only options at best at this point.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler went 1 for 2 with a home run -- his seventh -- Friday at Texas. The home run was his first of September and the hit was his fourth.
Analysis: Kapler is just a platoon player, and the Rays have so many options up with roster expansion that he's not even a strict platoon player. Leave him for the deepest of AL-only leagues.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler hit a solo home run in a pinch-hit appearance Friday at Detroit. The homer was his sixth of the season and second in three days.
Analysis: Kapler might be heating up like he did in early June, when he hit his other four homers. But since he's the lesser half of a platoon with Gabe Gross, you can leave him for deeper AL-only leagues.
News: Tampa Bay OF Gabe Kapler hit his fifth home run of the season on Wednesday in a 3-2 loss to Toronto. He went 1 for 3 in the game with two RBI and a walk.
Analysis: Kapler provides very little in terms of Fantasy prowess and can only be used in extremely deep AL-only formats at this point.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler continued his recent tear by homering in his fourth straight game Tuesday against the Rockies. Kapler, who fell a double shy of the cycle, tied his career high with four RBI and would have had extra bases on a shot that center fielder Dexter Fowler caught on the warning track in the sixth. After giving up Evan Longoria's 15th home run in the first, De La Rosa allowed a two-run triple to Kapler after third baseman Ian Stewart let his foul ball drop to the grass. Kapler scored on Dioner Navarro's single. Kapler sent De La Rosa to the showers with his fourth homer, a shot to left field.
Analysis: Kapler is 7 for 11 (.636) with four homers and nine RBI during a four-game hitting streak. Talk about a hot streak. Kapler had been mired in a season-long slump before his recent run and has been grateful that manager Joe Maddon kept giving him at-bats. However, Kapler's run likely won't last and remains more of a stopgap Fantasy option.
News: Tampa Bay OF Gabe Kapler played in left and right field on Sunday against Washington. Kapler went 2 for 2 at the dish with two walks and hit a two-run home run in the 6th inning. It was his third homer of the season. Kapler is batting .202.
Analysis: Kapler has three home runs in three consecutive games and that is all the power production he's amassed this season. He's not an everyday player, though the Rays might get him active more often now, and that keeps him an AL-only Fantasy option.
News: Even though he's batting less than .200, the Tampa Bay Rays continue to show faith in Gabe Kapler. That loyalty paid Friday night. One pitch after an error prolonged his at-bat, the slumping Kapler hit a pinch-hit home run that snapped an eighth-inning tie and gave the AL champions a 4-3 victory over the Washington Nationals. Stuck in a 3-for-31 slide that dropped his batting average to .173, Kapler went deep against Ron Villone (3-2) after first baseman Nick Johnson dropped a pop foul that would have been the third out. "I was screaming at the ball and I think it heard me and skipped off Nick's glove," Kapler said. "I guess I really wanted that opportunity."
Analysis: Kapler primarily plays against left-handed pitchers and said he's extremely appreciative that manager Joe Maddon continues to pencil him into the lineup and bring him off the bench against lefties. "One of the things I'm most impressed with this season is the fact I've struggled fairly significantly, and every time there's a lefty out there, I get the chance to start," Kapler said. "It tells me he believes I can get the job done." While the Rays still have faith in Kapler, until he becomes a reliable threat the plate, he has marginal Fantasy appeal.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler lifted his first home run of the season in the 4th inning off Yankees' starter Andy Pettitte Monday as Tampa lost to New York. Kapler went 1-for-4 in the game with two RBI as he hit a two-run shot. Kapler is batting .173 on the season.
Analysis: Kapler hasn't done much of anything with the bat this season in 81 at bats. One home run isn't going to change the fact that he's been horrendous and has no Fantasy value at this time.
News: From the The Sports Xchange: OF Gabe Kapler has been off to a slow start, hitting just .100 until getting a pair of hits on Sunday, and getting passed over in a key pinch-hitting opportunity on Friday night. But manager Joe Maddon remains confident the veteran will help the team over the course of the season and continues to give him opportunities.
Analysis: Kapler is nothing more than a low-end reserve outfielder for the Rays and the deepest of AL-only leagues at this point in his career.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler, who consistently starts against left-handed pitchers, went 1-for-3 with a double against the Yankees and LHP Andy Pettitte on Wednesday. He's batting only .154 (2-for-13).
Analysis: It's still early and the Rays don't have any real reason to shy away from Kapler, given his limited number of at-bats, but he obviously can't make a Fantasy contribution if he keeps hitting this way. He has decent pop, but he's only worth using in deeper AL-only leagues as a part-time starter.
News: Rays OF Gabe Kapler hit his first home run of the spring Thursday against the Phillies, finishing 2-for-3. He's batting only .143 during the exhibition season.
Analysis: Kapler came out of retirement and proved he could still hit last year, batting .301 with eight home runs as a part-timer for the Brewers. He'll play a reserve role for the Rays, getting occasional starts, so leave him for deeper AL-only leagues.
News: The AL champion Rays agreed to a $1 million, one-year contract with outfielder Gabe Kapler. A .273 career hitter with 72 homers and 340 RBI, Kapler's versatility as an outfielder was a factor, as well as his 26 and homers and .294 career average against left-handed pitching. He hit .354 with four home runs and 22 RBI against lefties in 2008. So was the amount the Rays could afford to pay Kapler after giving Burrell a deal that vice president of Andrew Friedman said would limit Tampa Bay's spending for the rest of this offseason. "That was the extent of our flexibility," Friedman said. "He further upgrades us against left-handed pitching. He can play all three outfield spots, and it's further insurance in the event that B.J. is not ready opening day. We're still optimistic. But you never know. It's important for us to get off to a good start, and we feel like in the event B.J. isn't ready that we're in much better position with Gabe."
Analysis: The 33-year-old came out of retirement last season with bat .301 with eight homers, 17 doubles, 38 RBI and a career-best .498 slugging percentage in 96 games with the Brewers. Consider the veteran reserve outfielder nothing more than a deeper AL-only option at this point. We don't seem him getting enough at-bats to make a real impact in any Fantasy format.
News: Brewers RF Gabe Kapler has a torn muscle in his right shoulder and could miss the rest of the season. Kapler will stay in Milwaukee and undergo physical therapy with the team in an effort to determine whether he can return this year. The team said Thursday that Kapler is hopeful he can return this year, but gave no timetable for his recovery. He left Wednesday's game after making a hard throw to the plate in the sixth inning against the Cincinnati Reds. With the Reds leading 3-1, Kapler's throw kept Edwin Encarnacion from attempting to score on Jay Bruce's single, but Kapler, in the lineup for struggling All-Star Corey Hart, immediately winced in pain and grabbed for his shoulder. Milwaukee went on to rally for a 4-3 win, thanks in part to Kapler's effort.
Analysis: Kapler, who retired from baseball for a year due to injuries and became a manager, is hitting .301 with eight homers and 38 RBIs in 229 at-bats this season after signing as a free agent with the Brewers. He's someone to avoid in all Fantasy leagues at this point as he most likely is done for the year and maybe his career.
News: Brewers right fielder Gabe Kapler left Wednesday's game with a strained right shoulder after making a hard throw to the plate in the sixth inning against the Cincinnati Reds. With the Reds leading 3-1, Kapler's throw kept Edwin Encarnacion from attempting to score on Jay Bruce's single, but Kapler, in the lineup for struggling All-Star Corey Hart, immediately winced in pain and grabbed for his shoulder. At first he appeared to motion to his teammates that he was OK, but barely tested the arm before calling for time and the trainer. Kapler, who retired from baseball for a year due to injuries and became a manager, was hitting .296 with eight homers and 38 RBIs in 227 at-bats this season after signing as a free agent with the Brewers. He was replaced by Tony Gwynn Jr. The team said Kapler would undergo testing later Wednesday.
Analysis: Kapler is nothing more than a low-end reserve for the Brewers and the deepest of NL-only leagues at this point in his career. Cut and ignore him down the stretch, especially since their are so many options available to you this time of year.
News:Chris R. Young came within four outs of perfection, a major accomplishment for a guy whose season has been anything but perfect. Young retired the first 23 Brewers in order before Gabe Kapler homered, and the Padres beat Milwaukee 10-1 on Sunday. "Listen, we'd prefer to not have them celebrate something like a no-hitter or a perfect game, any team for that matter, on our field," Kapler said. "So, it's gratifying that didn't happen. That said, it wasn't a good game. We didn't play well. We didn't play good defense. We didn't swing the bats well and we didn't pitch. There's not much good to talk about today."
Analysis: Kapler has been getting starts in center with Mike Cameron banged up, but he is nothing more than a reserve outfielder for the Brewers and the deepest of NL-only leagues down the stretch.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler had a two-run double off Pirates RP Sean Burnett during Sunday's 7-0 win. Kapler, who also walked once and scored a run, had his 16th double of the season while upping his RBI total to 37.
Analysis: Kapler has had a great comeback season for the Brewers after he was a Class A manager in 2007, but he has come to the plate just 216 times in 2008 and remains a reserve outfielder for Milwaukee. Kapler is nothing more than a low-end NL-only Fantasy OF.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler went 1-for-5 with a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Padres, extending his hit streak to five games.
Analysis: Kapler is hitting a solid .304 and is seeing some more action with Ryan J. Braun injured. Still, he is nothing more than a low-end bench option in the deepest of NL-only leagues.
News: After going hitless in his first six at-bats Sunday, Milwaukee OF Gabe Kapler was ready to spend a long night at home pondering his poor play. Instead, he gave himself and the Brewers something to remember. The reserve outfielder homered off the pole in left leading off the 13th inning and the Milwaukee Brewers came back from a late three-run deficit for a 5-4 victory over the Nationals. "Today's game was, overall, not a comfortable game from a personal standpoint," he said. "I didn't feel very good overall." In his first six at-bats, he went 0-for-6, striking out twice, reaching once on an error and only getting one ball out of the infield. "I knew that barring something like that happening for me, I was probably going to go home and have a pretty rough night," he said. "Now, I can go home and look forward to tomorrow. It's a nice feeling."
Analysis: Kapler is hitting a solid .304 but he's nothing more than a reserve OF with the Brewers and a low-end bench option in the deepest of NL-only leagues.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler went 3-for-4 with two doubles in Thursday's loss to the Cubs, breaking out of an 0-for-12 slump.
Analysis: Kapler is hitting a solid .303, despite his recent struggles, but he's nothing more than a reserve OF with the Brewers and a low-end bench option in the deepest of NL-only leagues.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler had two hits, including his 11th double, and one RBI in four at-bats Sunday against the Reds. Kapler is 5-for-13 (.385) with three RBI in his last six games.
Analysis: Kapler, who was managing in the minors last season, ends the first half with a .315 average, five homers and 27 RBI. Not bad for a reserve outfielder. Kapler got a lot of starts early in the season when Mike Cameron was suspended, but since he returned in late April, Kapler has been playing primarily off the bench. He's nothing more than an NL-only Fantasy option at this time.
News: Milwaukee continued its hot hitting against the Rockies on Thursday and OF Gabe Kapler went along for the ride. Kapler went 3-for-4 for the Brew Crew, with all three hits going for two bases. He also drove in two runs and scored one of his own. He's hitting .315.
Analysis: While his batting average is over .300, he's not exactly tearing the cover off the ball. He's got five homers and 26 RBI on the year in only 143 ABs so he isn't a full-time player, either. He's nothing more than an NL-only Fantasy option at this time.
News: Milwaukee outfielder Gabe Kapler went 2-for-3 Saturday in the Brewers defeat of the Baltimore Orioles. Kapler singled and doubled in the game and also walked once.
Analysis: Kapler possesses great strength but really isn't a home run hitter. He'd been struggling lately so Saturday's game is a good sign. Still, he doesn't get regular playing time and will lose starts once Mike Cameron is ready to play. He's nothing more than an NL-only Fantasy option at this time.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler was hitless in four at-bats Thursday against the Blue Jays and did not help much in a 8-7 win. He did score one run. Kapler is 5-for-16 (.313) with one homer and two RBI in his last six games.
Analysis: Since Mike Cameron returned to the lineup in late April, Kapler has been returned to a reserve outfielder role. He will see one or two starts per week, but primarily works as a pinch hitter. Kapler is nothing more than a NL-only Fantasy reserve.
News: Milwaukee defeated Houston Thursday, 9-6, and Gabe Kapler came off the bench and hit his fifth home run of the season for the pitcher's spot in the order.
Analysis: Kapler is the Brewers' fourth outfielder so he doesn't see regular playing time, diminishing has Fantasy value. More often, he'll have nights like Thursday where he only sees one or two at-bats. He does make the most of those at-bats, however. Keep him in deeper NL-only Fantasy leagues, but he doesn't make much sense in anything more than that.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBI Sunday in a 10-1 win over the Astros.
Analysis: Kapler did very well earlier in the season while Mike Cameron was serving a 25-game suspension. Ever since, Kapler has become a fourth outfielder who just doesn't see enough regular playing time to be considered useful in even NL-only Fantasy formats.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler has made just two starts since May 15. He has four hits in nine at-bats during the past week and has a hit in his last four appearances.
Analysis: Kapler did very well earlier in the season while Mike Cameron was serving a 25-game suspension. Ever since, Kapler has become a fourth outfielder who just doesn't see enough regular playing time to be considered useful in even NL-only Fantasy formats.
News: Brewers 1B Prince Fielder and RF Corey Hart were held out of the starting lineup for the first time this season. Yost said he wanted them fresh with a weekend series against St. Louis coming up. Joe Dillon started at first and Gabe Kapler got the nod in right field.
Analysis: Kapler went 1-for-4, leaving four men on base. With Mike Cameron back from suspension and starting in center field, Kapler has become the team's fourth outfielder. Use him in NL-only play.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler, back to playing his intended reserve role now that Mike Cameron has returned from suspension, hasn't started a game April 26, going 1-for-4 during that stretch.
Analysis: Kapler had a good run as a short-term starter, hitting four home runs with an average over .300 much of the time. But he hasn't homered since April 13 and clearly doesn't deserve a spot on most Fantasy rosters in his current role.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler did not start his eighth straight game Tuesday against the Cardinals because of a bruised shoulder, but got a full game of at-bats as Tuesday's contest went 12 innings. Kapler entered as a defensive replacement in center and finished the game with two singles in four at-bats. Kapler singled home the winning run with one out in the 12th inning and the Milwaukee Brewers overcame another blown save by Eric Gagne, beating the St. Louis Cardinals 9-8 Tuesday.
Analysis: Kapler's problemsome shoulder has been a bigger issue than believed, but he took a big step Tuesday in returning to the starting lineup by taking four at-bats. Kapler is dying to get healthy since his time as a starting centerfielder is running out with the return of Mike Cameron (suspension). Kapler remains a stopgap Fantasy OF until Cameron returns in late April.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler (shoulder) was once again held out of Monday's game against the Cardinals. He is available to pinch hit, but has missed the last seven starts.
Analysis: The Brewers thought this shoulder issue would only last a few days, but how wrong they were. Kapler is dying to get healthy since his time as a starting centerfielder is running out with the return of Mike Cameron (suspension). Kapler remains a stopgap Fantasy OF until Cameron returns in late April.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler didn't start for a sixth straight game Sunday as Milwaukee lost 4-3 to the Reds on Sunday in 10 innings. Kapler had made pinch hit appearances in three straight games, but didn't leave the bench on Sunday.
Analysis: With his hot start to the season, Kapler quickly became the everyday option in center field with Mike Cameron suspended. Kapler was initially sharing time with Tony Gwynn before Gwynn went on the DL. Now it's Kapler who is injured. He is a very risky start for Fantasy Week 4 (April 21-27), and will lose a lot of playing time once Cameron returns in late April.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler (shoulder) did not return to the starting lineup Saturday at Cincinnati, but did come into the game as a defensive replacement and finished 0-for-2 with two strikeouts.

News: Brewers outfielder Gabe Kapler missed his second straight start on Wednesday, a day after bruising his right shoulder leaping at the wall for a batting practice fly ball. Manager Ned Yost had no problem with Kapler getting hurt before the game. Yost applauded the effort of the 32-year-old Kapler, one of the early season surprise success stories after being out of baseball for a year. Kapler was batting .423 with four home runs and 11 RBI. "What makes Gabe so good is he doesn't differentiate between the game and practice," Yost said. "So when he's in the outfield, he shags batting practice balls like it were a game. That's how you stay on top of your game." Gabe Gross, who had been platooning with Kapler in center field, started for the second straight game on Wednesday. Before the injury, Yost had scrapped the platoon arrangement.
Analysis: Yost said Kapler was "a little better," but didn't know if he could use him off the bench Wednesday. Kapler agreed with Yost's assessment but was guarded, and suggested talking to Yost or a trainer for further information. "I'm not telling you I don't have those conversations with the trainer or manager," Kapler said. "But that's not a question that I would prefer to answer. It's not my decision to make." Kapler continues to see most of the starts until Mike Cameron returns from a 25-game suspension. Treat him as a stopgap Fantasy option until late April.
News: The Brewers were without .423-hitting OF Gabe Kapler on Tuesday at St. Louis, who was a late scratch with a bruised right shoulder. Manager Ned Yost said Kapler would play Wednesday if he felt up to it.
Analysis: Kapler has played almost every day in center field with Mike Cameron suspended, and he's given the Brewers reason to wonder if they should take him out of the lineup. He has four home runs already to go along with that spectacular batting average. However, unless he ends up with a clear everyday role at some point, he's nothing more than an NL-only Fantasy option.
News:Gabe Kapler has gone from minor league manager to major league hassle for opposing pitchers. Kapler, who managed in the Red Sox organization last season, homered for the second straight day, doubled twice and drove in three runs to help the Milwaukee Brewers beat the New York Mets 9-7 on Sunday. The 32-year-old Kapler came out of retirement during the offseason and has four home runs in 26 at-bats. Kapler is hitting .423 on the season.
Analysis: The last time Kapler had at least four homers in a season was 2004, with Boston. He didn't get No. 4 that season until July 21, in his 159th at-bat. Kapler is playing in place of Mike Cameron, suspended for the first 25 games after testing positive for a banned stimulant. He doesn't start everyday, but with the way he has been swinging the bat, the Brewers might change that. Still, Kapler is only worth using in Fantasy leagues on a stopgap basis. There was a reason he went into retirement.
News:Gabe Kapler hit his third home run of the season in the seventh inning Saturday at the Mets, a two-out, two-run shot that finished Johan Santana's day.
Analysis: Kapler last had three home runs in a season in 2004, when he played for the Red Sox. He's hit his three homers in 22 at-bats. He starts against lefties, but is expected to lose at-bats when Mike Cameron returns from his suspension on April 29. He is nothing more than a stopgap NL-only Fantasy option despite his early power surge.
News: Brewers OF Gabe Kapler homered for the second time in as many days during Sunday's 7-0 win against the Giants. His solo shot came off Barry Zito in the fifth inning. He also had a single and sac fly in the game. Kapler has hit safely in the last three games and is hitting .438 on the season.
Analysis: Kapler is currently in a platoon situation in center with Tony Gwynn Jr. until Mike Cameron returns from a 25-game suspension. For those who are unaware, but Kapler was actually a minor league coach in the Boston organization last season before the Brewers lured him back to baseball. He hit .250 this spring and did well enough to earn a roster spot. Kapler starts against lefties and just might keep his job as a bench player when Cameron is active. He is nothing more than a stopgap NL-only Fantasy option.
News: MLB.com reports Brewers manager Ned Yost was tempted to keep Tony K. Gwynn in the lineup Wednesday against the Cubs after his game-winning sacrifice fly Monday. However, Yost intends to stick to his platoon plan in center field as long as Mike Cameron (25-game suspension) is sidelined. Gwynn will face right-handers and Gabe Kapler will start in center when a left-hander -- like Ted Lilly, who started Wednesday for Chicago -- is on the hill. "My plan is my plan," Yost said.
Analysis: For those who are unaware, but Kapler was actually a minor league coach in the Boston organization last season before the Brewers lured him back to baseball. He hit .250 this spring and did well enough to earn a roster spot. Kapler is a career .288 hitter against lefties. There is a chance he gets bumped off the roster when Cameron comes back, but only time will tell. Kapler remains just a NL-only Fantasy option at this time.

Analysis: The 32-year-old Kapler spent the 2007 season as the manager of the Greenville Drive, the Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. A nine-year major league veteran, he has played with Detroit, Texas, Colorado and Boston, Kapler has a .270 career average with 64 homers and 302 RBI in 850 games. Consider him nothing more than a reserve outfielder for the deepest of NL-only leagues, if he makes the team.
