Rangers add Sam Freeman from Triple-A, DFA Stolmy Pimentel

(5/13/2015) The Rangers have purchased the contract of Sam Freeman from Triple-A Round Rock and designated Stolmy Pimentel for assignment, the team announced on Wednesday. 

Freeman has a 1.12 ERA with eight strikeouts and no walks in eight innings of work for Round Rock. Pimentel has a 3.97 ERA and seven strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings of work.

(4/15/2015) The Rangers have outrighted pitcher Sam Freeman to Triple-A Round Rock, according to FOX Sports Southwest.

Freeman was designated for assignment on April 5 after posting a 9.45 ERA in spring training. He went 2-0 in 2014 with a 2.61 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 38 innings.


Anthony Bass and Keone Kela make Rangers' roster

(4/5/2015) The Rangers finalized their Opening Day roster, with Anthony Bass and Keone Kela earning spots on the team.

The RHP Bass had a 5.79 ERA in five games. Brought to spring training as a non-roster invitee, the Rangers added him to the 40-man roster. 

The RHP Kela was also added to the Opening Day roster. 

RHP Sam Freeman was designated for assignment after posting a 9.45 ERA this spring.

Four players were also placed on the 15-day disabled list: LHP Matt Harrison (back), RHP Kyuji Fujikawa (groin), RHP Tanner Scheppers (ankle) and RHP Lisalverto Bonilla (elbow).


Rangers option pitchers Claudio, Edwards to minor league affiliate

(4/4/2015) The Rangers have decided to option pitchers Alexander Claudio and Jon Edwards to Triple-A Round Rock, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Pitcher Sam Freeman, who posted a 22.50 ERA in three spring training appearances, will not make the roster. Claudio posted a .245 ERA in 13 spring appearances with 14 strikeouts. Edwards posted a 2.92 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 10 spring training appearances.

(3/28/2015) The Cardinals traded left-handed pitcher Sam Freeman to the Rangers in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations, according to the team's official website.

Freeman, 27, appeared in 44 games for the Cardinals last season. He posted a 2.61 ERA, a 1.39 WHIP and 35:19 K:BB ratio over 38 innings of work. He has allowed a .758 OPS against left-handed hitters during his three-year run with the Cardinals.

(3/26/2015) Cardinals pitcher Sam Freeman tossed a scoreless inning in Wednesday's 1-0 win against the Nationals, and manager Mike Matheny indicated after the outing that it was Freeman's best outing of the spring, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

"That was his best outing of the year," Matheny said. "He was getting ahead in the count and making good, tough pitches when he had to. He had the swing-and-miss split going today. It was a good day. It was his best outing and it was a good time for it."

Freeman, who would have to pass through waivers to be sent to the minors, remains a longshot to win a bullpen spot this spring. He has posted a 3.60 ERA and 3:5 K:BB ratio in five spring innings.


Report: Sam Freeman, Xavier Cedeno headed to waivers before season

(3/14/2015) Cardinals pitcher Sam Freeman and Nationals pitcher Xavier Cedeno are both expected to hit waivers before the season begins, reports ESPNNewYork.com.

With both rosters filled with pitchers, the two are likely going to hit waivers before being sent down to the minors. Freeman is a career 3.33 ERA in 81 appearances. Cedeno has a 5.19 ERA in 72 appearances.

(8/17/2013) The Cardinals have recalled pitcher Tyler Lyons from Triple-A Memphis, MLB.com reports. St. Louis also optioned left-handed pitcher Sam Freeman back to Memphis. 

Freeman appeared in four games with the Cardinals and allowed just two hits over four scoreless innings. He had five strikeouts. 

Lyons debuted earlier this season for St. Louis as a starter. He returns to the Cardinals bullpen after pitching as a starter with the team earlier this season. As a starter, Lyons went 2-4 with a 5.35 ERA with 26 strikeouts over 38 2/3 innings in seven outings.
