Rays' Beliveau headed for surgery; Brett to DL, Elmore recalled

(4/22/2015) The Rays announced a few roster moves Tuesday, including reliever Jeff Beliveau being moved to the 60-day disabled list. It was announced he will have surgery Thursday to repair a torn left labrum.

Beliveau will be out for the rest of the season. The Rays hope he will be ready by spring training.

The Rays also placed Ryan Brett on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder subluxation. Infielder Jake Elmore was recalled from Triple-A Durham to take his roster spot.

"[Elmore] provides a ton of versatility," Cash said, per MLB.com. "He's played well down there. He's been having really good at-bats. It was nice to see him during Spring Training. He was the guy that we carried on every single trip simply because if he wasn't starting, he covered us at any position -- and that's a luxury to have in the dugout."

(4/21/2015) Rays pitcher Jeff Beliveau said Tuesday that he has an impingement in his left shoulder, the Tampa Tribune reports.

Beliveau underwent an MRI Saturday, and he's scheduled to undergo more testing Wednesday. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday due to shoulder soreness.

(4/17/2015) Rays reliever Jeff Beliveau was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday due to left shoulder soreness, the team announced. He has a 13.50 ERA in five relief appearances.

The Rays also optioned outfielder Mikie Mahtook to Triple-A Durham, while also recalling infielder Ryan Brett and reliever C.J. Riefenhauser .

(11/15/2014) Rays pitcher Jeff Beliveau has been diagnosed with a mild left lat strain, the Tampa Tribune reports.

Beliveau suffered the injury while pitching with the All-Star team in Japan. The minor issue will keep him out of action for the remainder of the Japan series, but the pitcher should be good to go for spring training.

(9/14/2014) Coming into Sunday's game at the Blue Jays, Jeff Beliveau had never been handed a save opportunity in 45 career appearances, but he successfully converted his first one in a 10-inning, 6-5 victory for the Rays.

The save opportunity was made possible when Rays closer Jake McGee surrendered a one-run lead in the ninth inning, sending the game into extra innings. Brandon Gomes got the first two outs in the bottom of the 10th, and then the left-handed Beliveau was brought in to retire lefty Adam Lind. Kevin Pillar pinch-hit for Lind, and he popped up for the final out.

Beliveau has been up and down with the Rays a few times this season, but has appeared in just two games. He has tossed a pair of scoreless innings in his time in the majors so far.

Beliveau was summoned Friday to take the place of Cesar Ramos, who went on paternity leave this weekend. With Ramos returning, Beliveau rejoins the Bulls. He didn't see an appearance in his recent stint with the team.

Beliveau is in his third stint with the Rays this season. He has a 1.10 ERA for Durham, and has retired all six batters faced in the majors.

A corresponding move has yet to be announced, though many assume Matt Moore will head to the disabled list after leaving Monday's game with an injury. Beliveau is on his way to Kansas City, where the team is currently in the middle of a three-game series with the Royals.
