'Inexperience' hurting Robert Carson

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/19/2013) Mets reliever Robert Carson gave up his seventh home run in 11 innings during Saturday's game against the Cubs. He's had scoreless appearances in just two of his eight outings and has a 10.64 ERA.

"It's just inexperience," Collins said. "He probably doesn't pitch as much here as he does in the minor leagues. You're more on a schedule there, and as you go a couple of days, you're going to get in a game. And he hasn't been doing that. The thing I like is that his velocity is up, but he's throwing balls right down the plate. He gets behind, and he'll throw a fastball right down the middle and get hurt."

(4/21/2013) The Mets officially promoted pitcher Robert Carson from Triple-A Las Vegas Sunday to help their besieged bullpen. He took the roster spot of Aaron Laffey and is expected to be used as a long reliever with New York.

"Robert's been throwing the ball very well down there," Mets manager Terry Collins told ESPN.com Sunday. "So we're gonna give him a shot."

Mets to carry two left-handed relievers

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/20/2013) Mets manager Terry Collins said during a radio interview Wednesday on WFAN that the team intends to carry two left-handed relievers. ESPN predicted one of the spots will go to Josh Edgin, while Pedro Feliciano, Robert Carson and Scott Rice vie for the other left-handed role in the bullpen.

ESPN also reported this news likely means there will only be room for either Greg Burke or Jeurys Familia in the team's rotation.
