Reds shake up bullpen prior to Thursday's game

(8/21/2014) The Reds have optioned J.J. Hoover and Carlos Contreras to Triple-A prior to Thursday's game, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer

Pedro Villarreal and David Holmberg have been called up to take their roster spots. Holmberg will get the start for Cincinnati Thursday.

(8/7/2013) The Reds have optioned pitcher Pedro Villarreal to the minors Wednesday. 

Villarreal pitched in two games with the club. In his brief appearance, he posted a 12.71 ERA. It marks the second time this season Villarreal has been optioned to the minors after one appearance in the majors.

(8/3/2013) Reds recalled reliever Pedro Villarreal from Triple-A Louisville Saturday, filling the roster spot vacated by the option of Curtis Partch.

Villarreal allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innigns with the Reds earlier in the season, and struggling through a 5.08 ERA at Triple-A as well.

(6/15/2013) The Reds recalled pitcher Pedro Villarreal from Triple-A Louisville Saturday to help out in the bullpen, MLB.com reports. 

Villarreal appeared in one game earlier this year for the Reds. He gave up six runs on 10 hits -- including three homers -- and two walks over just 3 2/3 innings in a start. He took the loss in that outing June 5 against Colorado.

(6/7/2013) The Reds have optioned pitcher Pedro Villarreal to Triple-A Louisville, the club announced Friday. Villarreal was beat up in a spot start for the injured Johnny Cueto on Wednesday, as he allowed six runs on 10 hits over 3 2/3 innings.

(6/5/2013) Reds starting pitcher Pedro Villarreal did not have much time to prepare for his first major-league start Wednesday against the Rockies, and it showed.

Pitching in place of the injured Johnny Cueto, Villarreal let an early lead go to waste, in a 12-4 loss. He allowed six runs on 10 hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings of work, and he particularly struggled to keep the ball in the yard. The Rockies hit three home runs off Villarreal in the game.

It is not clear if Villarreal will make another start for the Reds, with Cueto on the disabled list.
