Indians bring up P Austin Adams, DFA veteran P Scott Atchison

(6/23/2015) The Indians relief corps got a lot younger Tuesday when Austin Adams was promoted from Triple-A Columbus and fellow right-hander Scott Atchison was designated for assignment.

Adams proved impressive in his last stint with the team. His fastball peaked at 100 mph and he compiled a 2.38 ERA.

The 39-year-old Atchison began the season on a roll, even earning appearances as the setup man, before collapsing. He has allowed 10 earned runs in his last nine innings pitched.


Indians recall C.C. Lee, option Austin Adams to Triple-A

(6/11/2015) The Indians recalled reliever Chen-Chang Lee from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday. To clear a roster spot, reliever Austin Adams was optioned to Columbus.

Lee is up for the first time in 2015. He went 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 23 innings for Columbus.

Adams is 0-0 with a 2.38 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and one save in seven relief appearances for Cleveland.

(5/31/2015) Indians relief pitcher Austin Adams worked a perfect 12th inning in Cleveland's 6-3 win over the Mariners on Sunday, earning his first save of the season. 

Adams struck out Justin Ruggiano to leadoff the inning before etting Austin Jackson to fly out and Seth Smith to ground out to end things. Adams moved his ERA to 1.35 in 6 2/3 innings of work.


Indians recall P Austin Adams, OF Jerry Sands from Triple-A

(5/28/2015) The Indians have recalled pitcher Austin Adams and outfielder Jerry Sands from Triple-A Columbus, the team announced Thursday.

This will be Adams' third stint with Cleveland so far this season. He's made three appearances and holds a 1.59 ERA over 5 2/3 innings. He has a 5.40 ERA in 10 outings with Triple-A. 

Sands spent nine games up with the Indians in April, recording eight hits in 23 at-bats. He has a .257 batting average with four home runs in 74 at-bats with Columbus. 

In correpsonding moves, pitcher Scott Atchison was placed on the 15-day disabled list, and first baseman Carlos Santana was added to the paternity list.


Indians activate Mike Aviles, option Austin Adams

(5/18/2015) The Indians activated infielder Mike Aviles from the restricted list on Monday and optioned pitcher Austin Adams to Triple-A Columbus, the team announced.

Aviles was placed on the family medical emergency list last week. He's playing third base on Monday and batting sixth against lefty Chris Sale and the White Sox. Aviles, who has hit .288/.373/.462 with two home runs and four RBI in 52 at-bats, could begin to see regular playing time at shortstop in the near future.

Adams struck out one in one inning on Saturday in his only appearance after rejoining the team from Triple-A.

(5/16/2015) The Indians have designated for assignment left-handed starter Bruce Chen and recalled righty Austin Adams from Triple-A, the team has announced.

In two starts for the Indians this season, Chen allowed nine runs in 6 1/3 innings (12.79 ERA).

Adams made two relief appearances for the Indians before being sent to Triple-A on April 18, allowing one run in 4 2/3 innings (1.93 ERA).

Indians officially recall Danny Salazar for Saturday's start

(4/18/2015) The Indians recalled Saturday's starter Danny Salazar from Triple-A Columbus and optioned right-hander Austin Adams to Columbus, per the team's official website.

Salazar had a promising MLB debut in 2013, then struggled with consistency last year. He was sent down after posting an 8.18 ERA in spring training this year. He registered a 4.25 ERA over 110 innings for the Indians in 2014.


Indians add Shaun Marcum, Austin Adams to 25-man roster

(4/12/2015) The Indians have purchased the contract of pitcher Shaun Marcum and recalled pitcher Austin Adams from Triple-A Columbus.

Marcum allowed just one earned run in seven innings this spring while striking out two. Adams was optioned Friday but is able to be recalled before the mandatory 10 days due to the injury to catcher Yan Gomes.

They also announced reliever Austin Adams has made the team, while infielder Michael Martinez has not. 

Lastly, the team announced infielder Zach Walters will start the year on the disabled list due to an oblique injury.

Adams, who was a non-roster invitee to camp, has posted a 5.87 ERA in eight appearances this spring with nine strikeouts and 11 hits allowed.

"We wanted to tell him he'd done a really good job," manager Terry Francona said of his morning conversation with Adams, "but we still don't know."

(3/12/2014) Stud shortstop prospect Francisco Lindor headlined a group of 12 Indians reassigned to minor league camp on Wednesday. Lindor will likely open the season at Double-A Akron, but could be promoted to Triple-A quickly thereafter.

Other notable prospects sent down were outfielders Tyler Naquin and Carlos Moncrief, first baseman Jesus Aguilar, catcher Tony Wolters and pitcher Austin Adams.

(11/20/2013) The Indians added first baseman Jesus Aguilar, infielder Erik Gonzalez, outfielder Carlos Moncrief and pitchers Austin Adams and Bryan Price to the 40-man roster Wednesday. The team also designated infielder Cord Phelps for assignment.

Aguilar hit .275/.349/.427 with 16 home runs and 105 RBI in 499 at-bats with Double-A Akron last season. Gonzalez hit .254/.293/.417 with nine home runs, 76 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 508 at-bats between Class A Lake County and high Class A Carolina. Moncrief hit .284/.354/.470 with 17 home runs, 75 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 489 at-bats with Double-A Akron.

Adams went 3-2 with a 2.62 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 76:29 K:BB ratio in 55 innings with Double-A Akron. Price went 2-3 with a 2.04 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 92:16 K:BB ratio in 75 innings between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus.

Phelps went 0 for 9 in four appearances with the Indians while also hitting .267/.333/.443 with nine home runs and 46 RBI with Triple-A Columbus.


Adams has shoulder surgery

(5/24/2012) Indians pitching prospect Austin Adams had surgery on his right shoulder on Wednesday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Adams pitched for Double-A Akron in 2011, going 11-10 with a 3.77 ERA, but he has been out all year after experiencing a shoulder impingement in spring training. Adams is expected to miss the rest of this season.
