(8/17/2014) Cardinals pitcher Kevin Siegrist was optioned to Triple-A Memphis Sunday following the recall of pitcher Carlos Martinez. Siegrist is 1-3 with a 6.11 ERA in 32 relief appearances this season for St. Louis.

(8/17/2014) Cardinals pitcher Kevin Siegrist was charged with a loss after serving up a grand slam in his team's 9-5 defeat against the Padres Saturday.

Siegrist (1-3) struck out the first batter of the seventh inning before loading the bases on two singles and a walk. The next batter he faced took him deep, and after retiring one more batter and issuing one more walk, he was removed from the game. Siegrist owns a 6.11 ERA and 33:10 K:BB ratio in 28 innings after giving up at least one run in four of his six August appearances.

(7/25/2014) Cardinals relief pitcher Kevin Siegrist (1-2) took the loss Friday afternoon against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Making his first appearance since his return from the disabled list, Siegrist allowed a two-run home run to Luis Valbuena in the seventh inning, which proved to be the difference. The left-hander was charged with two runs on two hits and no walks while striking out two over 1 1/3 innings of a 7-6 defeat. He owns a 4.22 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP over 21 1/3 innings this season.

(7/18/2014) Cardinals manager Mike Matheny told reporters on Friday that reliever Kevin Siegrist (forearm, shoulder) will need to pitch on consecutive days and make at least one multiple-inning appearance before returning from the disabled list.

Matheny did not indicate how long Siegrist will need while rehabbing in the minors. Siegrist has made three appearances in the minors and has allowed two hits and two walks while striking out three over 2 2/3 innings of relief.

(7/9/2014) Cardinals pitcher Kevin Siegrist is expected to begin a rehab assignment later this week after completing his third pain-free bullpen session Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

"I feel good," Siegrist said Wednesday. "I'm ready. This has been no fun."

If all goes well with his rehab assignment, the reliever should return to the Cardinals soon after the All-Star break.

"I imagine we'll need to see him -- [because] he's been out for a while -- go multiple innings, probably [make] back-to-back [appearances]," manager Mike Matheny said. "We're going in with the idea that we need to make sure he's covered everything he needs to cover."

(6/20/2014) Cardinals pitcher Kevin Siegrist's left shoulder felt better Friday after playing a game of catch from 120 feet Thursday, according to MLB.com.

"It's progress, definitely," Siegrist said after the throw. "It's just retraining that nerve so that I can throw again."

Siegrist is not sure when he will be able to resume throwing off a mound, as he will wait until all symptoms from the nerve issue are past. He was expected to go out on a minor-league rehab assignment prior to this shoulder issue, and now will have to successfully complete at least one session off a mound before he goes out.

(6/18/2014) Cardinals reliever Kevin Siegrist will have to wait to go on a rehab assignment as he had to skip his scheduled bullpen session Wednesday due to shoulder tightness, per MLB.com. Siegrist is on the disabled list with a left forearm strain, which he said is no longer an issue.

Siegrist said this injury is similar to the soreness he had in spring training, when he was forced to miss a side session. He returned to the mound a week later and had no further problems.

"Everything else is fine," Siegrist added. "I think taking time off for my forearm de-conditioned my arm."

The plan is now for Siegrist to throw a side session Friday.

"We'll just have to keep watching and listening to the medical staff and figure out what the game plan is going to be," manager Mike Matheny said. "We'll go as slow as we need to."
