Giants place Andrew Susac on DL, call up Hector Sanchez

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(7/19/2015) The Giants placed catcher Andrew Susac on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced on Sunday.

Susac suffered a right thumb sprain while sliding during Saturday's game. He's hitting .241 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 41 games this year.

Manager Bruce Bochy said that an MRI showed no ligament damage, per CSN Bay Area, but Susac still needs 10-14 days to recover.

To replace him, the team recalled catcher Hector Sanchez from Triple-A Sacramento.

Sanchez hit .194 in 18 games in a previous stint with the Giants this year. He was hitting .280 with three home runs and 11 RBI at Sacramento.

Giants C Andrew Susac triples, scores, leaves with injury Saturday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(7/18/2015) Giants catcher Andrew Susac left Saturday's game with a sprained right thumb. Susac had gone 1 for 2 with a triple and a run scored prior to exiting in the bottom of the fourth inning. He sustained the injury when sliding into third base when he hit his triple in the fourth inning.

"It was just straight into the bag," Susac said, per CSN Bay Area. "It’s pretty tight right now, all the symptoms of a sprain. I stood up (after the triple) and it just felt numb and tight."

Susac underwent X-rays which came back negative. Susac will likely be out 7-10 days with the injury. He will have a precautionary MRI on Saturday to make sure there is no serious damage. A tripe to the disabled list seems to be a likely scenario.

Andrew Susac replaces Posey at catcher. It's his 29th start and fourth in the last seven games.

Giants C Andrew Susac delivers big blow in victory

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(7/12/2015) Giants reserve catcher Andrew Susac broke out of a major slump with a three-run homer Sunday to propel San Francisco to a victory over the Phillies.

Susac entered Sunday just two for his last 22, with no homers or RBIs to show for the month. But he connected in the fourth inning for just his third home run of the season.

Susac's three-RBI day equals a season-high, which he also accomplished on June 27 against the Rockies.

Regular first baseman Brandon Belt shifts to left for Sunday's game for the ninth time this year.

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5/13/2015) Giants manager Bruce Bochy is taking advantage of playing in an American League ballpark by inserting Buster Posey in the starting lineup as the designated hitter on Wednesday. The move also allows Bochy to get Andrew Susac in the lineup. Susac has hit fairly well, batting .250 with one home run in limited time as the team's backup catcher.

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(5/6/2015) Giants catcher Buster Posey and third baseman Casey McGehee are out of the starting lineup Wednesday against the Padres, the team announced.

It will be just Posey's second day off of the season after starting 18 straight games for San Francisco. Andrew Susac will fill in for Posey and bat seventh. McGehee is getting a second consecutive day off to clear his head after scuffling at the plate to start the year. Matt Duffy will get his second straight start.

The Giants are currently the favorites (-138) against San Diego.

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(5/1/2015) The Giants are going with Matt Duffy and Andrew Susac in Friday night's lineup for their game against the Angels.

Duffy has been alternating starts at second base with Joe Panik and has been tabbed for this one. Susac is getting the start at catcher, meaning Buster Posey will play first base.

Brandon Belt is not starting as Nori Aoki is in the lineup and playing in left field.

Giants 1B Brandon Belt to see more time in left field

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/26/2015) Giants first baseman Brandon Belt will see more time in left field as manager Bruce Bochy looks for a way to get Belt and catchers Buster Posey and Andrew Susac in the lineup at the same time, CSN Bay Area reports.

Belt drew a start in left field last Sunday for the first time since 2012, and it appears he'll see more work in the outfield moving forward. However, the impending return of right fielder Hunter Pence could also create a playing-time crunch between Belt, Susac and outfielder Nori Aoki.

Giants catcher Andrew Susac connects for first home run of the year

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(4/26/2015) Giants catcher Andrew Susac went 2 for 5 at the plate in San Francisco's 5-4 win over the Rockies Saturday in 11 innings. Susac found success in the fourth inning when he ripped a 1-1 pitch from Jorge De La Rosa over the left field wall for a solo shot, his first of the year.

Giants left fielder Nori Aoki back in the starting lineup Saturday

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(4/25/2015) Giants left fielder Nori Aoki returns to the starting lineup Saturday against the Giants and will bat lead off, reports CSN Bay Area.

Aoki, who received his first off day of the season Friday, is hitting .311 with three RBI in 74 at-bats this season. Also in the lineup Saturday is catcher Andrew Susac, with Buster Posey shifting to first base and moving Brandon Belt to the bench. Susac, making just his third start of the year, is hitting 3 for 8 with two strikeouts to start the year.

Giants' Brandon Belt starting in left field Sunday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/19/2015) Giants first baseman Brandon Belt is starting in left field in Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Belt has spent all but one inning at first base since the start of the 2013 season, with his only non-1B appearance coming last year, when he played one inning in right field in a game. The position isn't completely foreign to the infielder, as he made 30 starts in 2011 and four starts in 2012 in left field.

The alignment allows manager Bruce Bochy to start Buster Posey and first base and insert Andrew Susac at catcher. With Belt in the outfield, Gregor Blanco is not in the starting lineup.

The Giants are favorites (-135) against the Diamondbacks Sunday.

Giants place Jake Peavy on 15-day DL with back strain

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(4/18/2015) The Giants placed starting pitcher Jake Peavy on the 15-day disabled list with a back strain and recalled catcher Andrew Susac from Triple-A Sacramento prior to Saturday's game against Arizona, per the team's official website.

Peavy was unable to make it past the fourth inning in Friday's start against the Diamondbacks, after he began experiencing tightness of the sacroiliac joint in the lower back, which first popped up on him during a long second inning, per Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

Peavy began the season 0-2 with a 9.39 ERA, a 2.08 WHIP and 7:4 K:BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings. He'll be eligible to return in early May.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/29/2015) The Giants optioned catcher Andrew Susac, first baseman Adam Duvall, pitcher Hunter Strickland and outfielders Gary Brown and Juan Perez to Triple-A Sacramento Sunday.

Susac was the favorite to open the season as the team's No. 2 catcher behind Buster Posey, but Hector Sanchez won the competition, leaving Susac to open the season as the team's starter in Triple-A.

The Giants also reassigned catcher Guillermo Quiroz, second baseman Brandon Hicks and pitchers Brett Bochy, Steven Okert and Juan Gutierrez to minor-league camp.
