(6/13/2014) Tigers right-hander Luke Putkonen underwent successful arthroscopic surgery Thursday to repair what is basically inflammation in his elbow joint, the team has announced.

Putkonen has been sidelined since mid-April after pitching in just two games this season and giving up eight runs in 2 2/3 innings.

He is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.

(5/26/2014) Tigers reliever Luke Putkonen (elbow) said Sunday he plans to start playing catch in about a week, per the Detroit Free Press. Putkonen plans to try some new stretching exercises to help in his recovery.

"It’s just basically a lot of inflammation in the back of the elbow joint," Putkonen said.

(5/14/2014) Reliever Luke Putkonen might require another rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo before rejoining the Tigers, per the Toledo Blade.

That assessment came after the right-hander, who is dealing with elbow inflammation, yielded three singles and a grand slam Tuesday night. Mud Hens manager Larry Parrish warned that he noticed problems with Putkonen's stuff.

"I didn't think he had the pop on his fastball, the movement," Parrish said.

(4/21/2014) The Tigers announced Monday they placed pitcher Luke Putkonen on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation to make room on the roster for J.D. Martinez, who was recalled from Triple-A Toledo.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Martinez, outfielder Andy Dirks (back) was moved from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.

(6:05 pm ET) Tigers reliever Luke Putkonen was ejected Thursday for throwing a pitch behind White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez in the top of the sixth inning, causing benches to clear. The pitch came after rookie Josh Phegley hit a grand slam off Anibal Sanchez.

Putkonen threw three pitches and lasted just a third of an inning before his ejection in a 6-3 loss. He has a 2.70 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP over 20 innings of relief.
