White Sox send down four

(3/19/2014) Catcher Josh Phegley headlines a quartet of White Sox dispatched to minor league camp Wednesday. The others are third baseman Andy Wilkins and pitchers Andre Rienzo and Eric Surkamp.

The White Sox are woefully short behind the plate. Unproven Tyler Flowers is set as the starter and Adrian Nieto his backup, though the team has been rumored to be looking for an upgrade via trade.


White Sox hand out 21 invites to spring training

(1/21/2014) The White Sox announced Tuesday they handed out 21 non-roster invites to spring training. The list was headlined by prospects Micah Johnson and Chris Beck, who are considered among the White Sox's top 10 prospects by Baseball America.

The 11 pitchers invited to spring training were Beck, Dylan Axelrod, Chris Bassitt, Parker Frazier, Brian Omogrosso, Omar Poveda, David Purcey, Zach Putnam, Mauricio Robles and Scott Snodgress.

The remaining spring invites included three catchers -- Hector Gimenez, Miguel Gonzalez, Kevan Smith -- four infielders -- Johnson, Alex Liddi, Mike McDade, Andy Wilkins -- and three outfielders -- Denis Phipps, Blake Tekotte, Keenyn Walker.

(3/5/2013) The Chicago White Sox made their first roster moves of the spring Tuesday and assigned the following players to their minor-league camp: third baseman Andy Wilkins, shortstop Tyler Saladino, catchers Mike Blanke and Kevan Smith and pitcher Jacob Petricka.
