"He’s closed enough games out for us to be called a closer," Banister said, per The Dallas Morning News. "I’m comfortable with giving him the closer’s position."

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Tolleson needed 38 pitches to get through his two save chances against Boston, which is why he was unavailable Friday.

"More than anything else, Tolleson was down because he had pitched back-to-back games and we didn't want to use him a third game," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said, per MLB.com.

Tolleson and Ohlendorf have closed out games for the Rangers since Neftali Feliz was removed as closer following his third blown save last Saturday against the Indians.

Rangers pitcher Shawn Tolleson trying to earn closer role

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(5/20/2015) Rangers pitcher Shawn Tolleson knows the roles in Texas' bullpen are currently up for grabs. Because of that, Tolleson is trying to take the opportunity to earn the closer's role, something he has done for much of his professional career, according to MLB.com.

"Yeah, I have aspirations to be a closer," Tolleson said. "Since I've been in professional baseball, it's what I did in the Minor Leagues. It has been a goal of mine."

Tolleson is 1-0 with a 3.63 ERA in 17 1/3 innings of work this season.

"If we settle into roles and that's the way it falls as far as where I'm best suited, I'm all for it," Tolleson said. "I will take the reins and embrace it. Right now, I am focused on putting up zeros no matter what the game situation is."

Rangers manager Jeff Banister: no roles set in bullpen

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(5/17/2015) Rangers manager Jeff Banister said after Sunday's game that all roles in his bullpen are up for grabs, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Closer Neftali Feliz blew his third save of the season on Saturday against the Indians when he surrendered a three-run homer in the ninth. Tanner Scheppers and Shawn Tolleson both threw at the back end of the bullpen on Sunday, allowing one hit over three scoreless innings.

"Brought all of our guys in, told each one of them, individually, collectively, that right now as we sit, nobody has a specific role, that we are going to find what is the best match for this bullpen, for this ballclub," Banister said to MLB.com. "We're going to continue to look at the hitters who are coming up each inning and what's the best fit or the best matchup with the best arm that we have out there at any given time."

Banister noted Feliz will fight to fight for his role.

"I didn't say that Feliz was not our closer," Banister said. "Every one of them are out there to pitch when we pick up the phone and call on them to be ready. … That was where we felt was the best place for Tolly to pitch."

Rangers' Jeff Banister concerned with bullpen arms for upcoming week

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(4/12/2015) Rangers manager Jeff Banister is going to "re-assess" the bullpen Monday after three pitchers: Neftali Feliz, Phil Klein and Shawn Tolleson appeared in every game during the team's weekend series against the Astros, reports the Dallas Morning News.

Banister doesn't want to throw any of his relievers on four straight days, but both Feliz and Tolleson did not rule out being available to pitch.

"Been a long time since I've done that," Feliz said. "But it felt good."

Feliz has thrown 3 2/3 innings this season with a 4.91 ERA and four strikeouts.

"I didn't feel fatigued at all," said Tolleson.

Tolleson still has a perfect 0.00 ERA with four strikeouts and zero walks in four innings of work.
