Kevin Chapman making return to majors

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/15/2014) The Astros will recall pitcher Kevin Chapman from Triple-A Oklahoma City Friday, reports MLB.com.

Chapman has a 1.23 ERA in 44 innings of relief in Triple-A this season, but struggled mightily in his last trip to the majors. He allowed seven runs over 5 2/3 innings in seven major-league appearances earlier in the season.

(7/2/2014) Right-hander Anthony Bass has been activated off the disabled list by the Astros, who in turn demoted left-hander Kevin Chapman to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Astros promoting INF, RP from Triple-A

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/1/2014) The Astros will promote infielder Enrique Hernandez and left-handed reliever Kevin Chapman from Triple-A Oklahoma City Tuesday, a source told MLB.com.

Hernandez is batting .337 with a .380 on-base percentage, .506 slugging percentage and .887 OPS in 67 games at Triple-A. He has two triples, eight home runs, 17 doubles and 31 RBI.

Chapman is 1-1 with a 0.94 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 26 relief appearances for Oklahoma City. He also has two saves and 37 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings.

Report: Kevin Chapman going down Thursday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4/17/2014) The Astros will send reliever Kevin Chapman down Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle. Chapman was informed of the move after allowing a walk to the only batter he faced in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Royals.

Chapman had a 12.27 ERA and 3.27 WHIP in six appearances, allowing five runs on five hits and seven walks in 3 2/3 innings of work. A corresponding move has not been announces.

Kevin Chapman blows first save chance, still wins

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(4/13/2014) Astros pitcher Kevin Chapman blew a save opportunity Saturday against the Rangers, but ended up getting the win as the team rallied for a 6-5 win in 10 innings.

Chapman, who is in the mix for the team's closer-by-committee role, allowed a solo home run to tie the game, the fourth time in five appearances he has allowed at least one run.  Fortunately, he earned his first win of the season when the Astros took the lead in the top of the 10th.

Chapman has failed to impress early in the season, carrying a 12.27 ERA with five hits and six walks in 3 2/3 innings.

Three potential Astros closers pitch in non-save situation

by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(4/2/2014) Though Bo Porter has declared a closer-by-committee approach for the Astros to start the season, one might glean from the Tuesday box score that early favorite Josh Fields has a leg up on the job.

Kevin Chapman, Chad Qualls and Matt Albers all pitched in the victory over the Yankees in non-save situations. Fields was held back, which indicates he will be first in line to close out games. Albers pitched the ninth, but since it was the season opener for Houston, it cannot be argued that he was merely getting his work in.

Kevin Chapman has a 'leg up' on other lefties

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(2/27/2014) Astros reliever Kevin Chapman has a "leg up" over the other lefties in the bullpen, according to MLB.com.

Manager Bo Porter said he'll take the seven best relievers, regardless of their handedness. The fact that Chapman is a lefty gives him an advantage, but most teams try not to carry more than two lefties on their roster unless those players are also effective against right-handers.

Chapman had a 1.77 ERA in 20 1/3 innings last year.

Kevin Chapman converts two-out save

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(8/18/2013) Astros reliever Kevin Chapman collected a rare two-out save Sunday afternoon against the Angels.

Chapman took over for Jordan Lyles in the ninth and needed only four pitches to retire the final two batters of the game. He has allowed one hit and two unearned runs over four innings pitched since joining the club from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Kevin Chapman called up by Astros

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(8/8/2013) The Astros have called up reliever Kevin Chapman from the minors.

Chapman has not appeared in the majors in his career. Chapman has a 3.20 ERA in 50 2/3 innings at Triple-A Oklahoma City.
