Kevin Quackenbush earns first save Wednesday

(8/21/2014) Padres pitcher Kevin Quackenbush picked up his first career save Wednesday, giving up a hit but pitching a scoreless ninth inning in his team's 4-1 win over the Dodgers.

Regular closer Joaquin Benoit is dealing with a shoulder issue, opening the door for Quackenbush to enter the game in a save opportunity. He owns a 2.29 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 37:13 K:BB ratio in 39 1/3 innings.

(7/13/2014) Padres pitcher Kevin Quackenbush took the loss Saturday night against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Quackenbush allowed a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to end the game. He was charged with one run on one hit and two walks while striking one over two-thirds of an inning. He owns a 2.73 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP over 26 1/3 innings of relief.

(5/26/2014) Padres pitcher Kevin Quackenbush was charged with the loss Monday night against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

Quackenbush was unable to force the game to extras and served up a walkoff two-run home run to A.J. Pollock with two outs in the ninth. The right-hander permitted two runs on one hits and no walks while striking out one in a 7-5 defeat. He has allowed five runs over his first 8 1/3 innings of relief.

Quackenbush will take the roster spot of Andrew Cashner, who was placed on the disabled list. Quackenbush has appeared in three games with the club this year, posting a 4.91 ERA.

(5/8/2014) The Padres made yet another roster move Thursday, recalling reliever Kevin Quackenbush from Triple-A El Paso to join the bullpen.

Hector Ambriz , who was added to the roster Wednesday, was designated for assignment to make room on the roster, while Xavier Nady was outrighted to El Paso concurrently.

Quackenbush appeared in one game, giving up two runs over 1 2/3 innings. Quackenbush was sent down in order to make room for Cameron Maybin, who was activated from the disabled list Sunday.

The Padres played a 12 inning game Thursday, and need some relief in the bullpen. In 10 innings in the minors, he's posted a 1.80 ERA with eight strikeouts.

Padres' top two prospects among 18 non-roster invites

(1/23/2014) The Padres announced Thursday 18 players received non-roster invites to spring training. Among the 18 players invited to spring training are catcher Austin Hedges and starting pitcher Matt Wisler, who are considered the team's top two prospects by Baseball America.

Other top prospects receiving invites were shortstop Jace Peterson (No. 7) and starting pitcher Joe Ross (No. 10). 2011 first-round pick Cory Spangenberg was also on the list.

The remaining players coming to camp as non-roster invites are Blaine Boyer, Leonel Campos, Anthony Carter, Dennis O'Grady, Adys Portillo, Kevin Quackenbush, Cody Decker, Alex Dickerson, Rico Noel, Daniel Robertson, Jonathan Galvez, Alberto Gonzalez and Xavier Nady.

(6/17/2013) Padres pitching prospect Kevin Quackenbush has been promoted to Triple-A Tuscon, MLB.com reports. He went 2-0 with a 0.29 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 46:10 K:BB ratio in 31 innings while picking up 13 saves in 29 appearances for Double-A San Antonio.

Quackenbush, who was drafted in the eighth round of the 2011 draft, has posted ERAs under 1.00 in each of his first three seasons in the minors while striking out 187 batters in 130 2/3 innings and collecting 58 saves.


Robbie Erlin among Padres' roster cuts

(3/16/2013) The San Diego Padres made several roster moves on Saturday as they cut Robbie Erlin, Kevin Quackenbush and Jason Ray from major-league camp. 

Erlin, 22, is considered the No. 10 prospect in the organization, according to Baseball America. Quackenbush and Ray are not considered top prospects. 

Erlin pitched at Double-A San Antonio last year and struck out 72 in 52 1/3 innings over 11 starts.
