Learning curve helps Drew Hayes

(3/16/2013) Reds pitching prospect Drew Hayes understands his time in the team's big-league camp -- the first experience of his career -- could end abruptly as Cincinnati shapes its roster for the regular season.
But that hasn't prevented the right-hander from soaking in lessons from veteran players as he enters his fourth professional season.
"I’m really enjoying it," he told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "This is a good group of guys. Being around them for an extended period of time has been really good. There’s a lot of older guys who are really open to younger guys, open to answering questions. It’s really been a help."
Hayes, 25, was the Reds' 11th-round pick in the 2010 draft. He has displayed blistering strikeout numbers in the minors and fanned 178 batters over 145 2/3 total innings across three lower levels. He could crack the Triple-A roster for the first time this year.
