Jameson Taillon among Pirates' roster moves Monday

(3/10/2014) The Pirates made several roster moves Monday, which included sending top pitching prospect Jameson Taillon to minor-league camp. Matt Hague and Carlos Paulino were also reassigned to minor-league camp.

The Pirates also optioned Alen Hanson and Joely Rodriguez were optioned to Double-A Altoona, while Casey Sadler was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.


Pirates add Gregory Polanco, three others to 40-man roster

(11/21/2013) The Pirates added outfielder Gregory Polanco, infielder Alen Hanson and pitchers Joely Rodriguez and Casey Sadler to the team's 40-man roster Wednesday.

Polanco, who ranks No. 1 on Baseball America's list of top Pirates prospects, hit .285/.356/.434 with 12 home runs, 71 RBI and 38 stolen bases in 470 at-bats across three levels last season. Hanson hit .274/.329/.427 with eight home runs, 58 RBI and 30 stolen bases in 504 at-bats between high Class A Bradenton and Double-A Altoona.

Rodriguez went 9-8 with a 2.70 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 101:39 K:BB ratio in 140 innings over 26 starts between Class A West Virginia and high Class A Bradenton. Sadler went 11-7 with a 3.31 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 67:42 K:BB ratio in 130 1/3 innings over 23 starts with Double-A Altoona.


Alen Hanson promoted to Double-A

(7/29/2013) Pirates infield prospect Alen Hanson has been promoted from Class A Bradenton to Double-A Altoona, reports MLB.com. Hanson, who entered the year as a top 100 prospect, hit .281 with a .444 slugging percentage and .783 OPS in 92 games for Bradenton.

Hanson also had seven home runs, eight triples, 23 doubles, 48 RBI, 51 runs and 24 stolen bases for Bradenton.

(7/28/2013) Pirates infield prospect Alen Hanson was promoted to Double-A Altoona, FOX Sports reports. The 20-year-old hit .280/.339/.445 with seven home runs, 48 RBI and 24 steals in 367 at-bats at the High Class-A Bradenton.

Alen Hanson overcomes slow start at Class A

(7/18/2013) Pirates infield prospect Alen Hanson is off to a slow start in July, batting .220 in 10 games, but he's been much improved following a slow start for Class A Bradenton. After batting .255 in April, Hanson bounced back to hit .311 in May and .300 in June.

Hanson is batting .280 with a .427 slugging percentage, .768 OPS, five home runs, six triples, 21 doubles, 35 RBI, 46 runs and 22 stolen bases in 82 games. He also has 30 walks and 65 strikeouts.

(5/6/2013) Following his breakout season at low Class A West Virginia in 2012, Pirates infield prospect Alen Hanson isn't having the same success to begin his 2013 campaign for Class A Bradenton. Hanson is hitting a disappointing .248 with no home runs through 27 games. 

Hanson has managed two triples, five doubles, seven stolen bases, 13 RBI and 14 runs for Bradenton.

Hanson hit .309 with 13 triples, 16 home runs, 33 doubles and 62 RBI in 124 games last season. Because of his breakout year, Hanson came into 2013 considered a top 100 prospect by MLB.com (No. 54) and Baseball America (No. 61).

(2/6/2013) After pitching prospects Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon, MLB.com considers infielder Alen Hanson and outfielder Gregory Polanco as the Pirates' third- and fourth-best prospects, respectively. "We've always liked them, and they've begun to perform," Pirates assistant general manager Kyle Stark said of Hanson and Polanco. "The rankings reflect the hard work both have put into their developments and give them more motivation to keep improving."
