by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/26/2015) With an off-day Thursday, the Astros made a slight change to their rotation.

Lance McCullers will still start the series opener Friday against the White Sox, but Dallas Keuchel is being moved up to Saturday to pitch on regular rest and Roberto Hernandez is being pushed back to Sunday.

Lance McCullers earns first career win for Astros

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(5/23/2015) Lance McCullers allowed two runs over six innings to earn his first career MLB win in his second start for the Astros over Detroit.

McCullers allowed six hits and walked one, striking out six. He moved to 1-0, with a 2.53 ERA.

"Just special," McCullers said, per the Houston Chronicle. "I'm just glad that we got the team win after two losses in a row."

McCullers threw 62 strikes in his 100 pitches. His next start is scheduled for Friday, against the White Sox.

"This kid's got a really good demeanor about himself," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said to MLB.com. "He didn't scare against some better hitters. He's making it known he can pitch up here, and he can help us."

Astros pitcher Lance McCullers to start this weekend against Tigers

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(5/19/2015) Astros pitcher Lance McCullers will start this weekend against the Tigers in Detroit on Saturday, manager A.J. Hinch said before Tuesday's game.

"I thought he handled himself very well and guys were excited to get him out there and he even gave 'em a little bit of ammunition to get to welcome him in, with the Batman shoes and the bravado," Hinch said to the Houston Chronicle.

McCullers allowed one run on three hits in 4 2/3 innings in his major-league debut on Monday against the Athletics. He struck out five with three walks in the contest.

Astros P Lance McCullers fares well in major-league debut

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(5/19/2015) Astros pitcher Lance McCullers impressed in his major-league debut, throwing five strikeouts in a 2-1 loss to the Athletics.

McCullers, sporting some Batman baseball cleats, allowed only one earned run in 4 2/3 innings. This gives him a 1.93 ERA to start his career. He walked three batters and gave up three hits in 93 pitches.

"I thought he hung in there pretty well," manager A.J. Hinch said after the game, per MLB.com. "First-night adrenaline pumping, he had his pitches, made some really good pitches for strikeouts. And he had a swing-and-miss strikeout on every pitch -- fastball, his big breaking ball and his changeup. So you know he'll get more pitch efficient as he gets away from the first-game adrenaline, but all in all, we obviously want to get five [innings] out of him. He came close to that, but for a major-league debut, with all the attention on him, I thought he handled himself very well."

McCullers was relieved by Joe Thatcher, who was credited with the loss.

Astros P Lance McCullers to make MLB debut, start Monday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5/15/2015) Astros pitching prospect Lance McCullers is expected to make his Major League debut and start Monday against the A's, according to MLB.com.

McCullers was promoted to Triple-A on Thursday, but will not make an appearance for Round Rock. Instead, he will make the jump from Double-A to the Major Leagues.

He was a first-round draft pick by the Astros in 2012. He owns a 43:11 K:BB ratio in 29 innings at Double-A this season.

“He won’t be spooked. He won’t be intimidated,” Astros manager A.J. Hinch said, per the Houston Chronicle. “It’s exciting to get an arm of his level to test him against major league hitters. He’s got a lot of confidence coming out of Double-A.”

Astros pitcher Lance McCullers impressing coaches in camp

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/18/2015) Astros pitcher Lance McCullers is considered one of Houston's top pitching prospects. So far this spring, McCullers is making his presence known, reports The Houston Chronicle.

"I was happy for McCullers to get his feet wet and get into a game," manager A.J. Hinch said. "He showed some really, really positive signs for making an impression right out of the gate when he wasn’t expected to pitch."

McCullers threw one inning Tuesday, recording one strikeout and surrendering just one hit.

“It’s going great,” McCullers said of minor-league camp. “I’m throwing the ball as best as I’ve ever thrown, feeling mentally and physically the strongest I’ve ever felt. I’m really excited.”
