Reds recall pitcher Jumbo Diaz; option pitcher Carlos Contreras

(7/17/2015) The Reds recalled pitcher Jumbo Diaz from Triple-A on Friday, the team announced. Diaz produced a 6.65 ERA over 23 innings of work earlier this season.

To make room for Diaz, the team optioned pitcher Carlos Contreras to Triple-A. Contreras has a 6.08 ERA over 13 1/3 innings of work this season.


Reds recall pitchers Contreras, Hand; option OF Boesch to Triple-A

(6/16/2015) The Reds have recalled pitchers Carlos Contreras and Donovan Hand from Triple-A Louisville, and optioned outfielder Brennan Boesch to Triple-A, the team announced on Tuesday. 

Contreras appeared in three games with the Reds earlier this season, allowing one earned run in 3 1/3 innings. With Triple-A, he owns a 4.66 ERA in 19 1/3 innings.

Hand hasn't thrown a big-league pitch since 2013. He has been pitching in Triple-A after signing a minor-league deal with the Reds in January. In 15 games, he owns a 4.50 ERA over 44 innings pitched.

Boesch has struggled this season in a part-time role with the Reds. In 56 at-bats, he's batting just .125 with one extra-base hit. 


Reds recall Raisel Iglesias, option Carlos Contreras

(5/13/2015) The Reds have officially recalled pitcher Raisel Iglesias from Triple-A and optioned pitcher Carlos Contreras to Louisville, the team announced.

Iglesias is scheduled to start on Wednesday against the Braves with Cincinnati in need of a spot starter. He is 1-2 with a 3.80 ERA in four starts with Louisville this season. Contreras has a 2.70 ERA with three strikeouts in three appearances this season.


Reds place pitcher Homer Bailey on DL with right elbow sprain

(4/27/2015) The Reds have placed pitcher Homer Bailey on the 15-day DL with a right elbow ligament sprain, retroactive to April 24, and recalled pitcher Carlos Contreras, the team announced Monday.

Bailey came off the disabled list April 18 and made two starts before landing back on the DL. He posted an 0-1 record with a 5.56 ERA and three strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings.

"It's a messy and unbelievably unfortunate both for him as an individual and for our ball club," manager Bryan Price said. "(Bailey) certainly won't be pitching here in the near future."

Contreras has posted a 1-0 record in six appearances with a 1.08 ERA for Triple-A Louisville.


David Holmberg among nine Reds sent down to minors

(3/16/2015) The Reds optioned Dylan Axelrod, Carlos Contreras, Daniel Corcino, Ryan Dennick, and David Holmberg to Triple-A Louisville. Amir Garrett was optioned to Class A Daytona, and Ramon Cabrera, Jon Moscot and Felix Perez were reassigned to minor league camp. 45 players remain active in big-league camp.

(4:16 pm ET) The Reds announced their September callups on Monday. Before making the moves, the team transferred Homer Bailey to the 60-day disabled list, ending his season. The team called up Carlos Contreras, Daniel Corcino, Jake Elmore, David Holmberg, J.J. Hoover, Tucker Barnhart, Donald Lutz, Yorman Rodriguez, Jason Bourgeois and Ryan Dennick.

Pedro Villarreal and David Holmberg have been called up to take their roster spots. Holmberg will get the start for Cincinnati Thursday. 


Carlos Contreras allows two runs, leaves with apparent injury

(8/21/2014) Reds pitcher Carlos Contreras was removed from Wednesday's game against the Cardinals with an apparent injury.

Contreras allowed two earned runs on two hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning, but appeared to misstep on a pitch and was taken out. Manager Mike Matheny didn't give an update on the pitcher's status after the game.


Curtis Partch, Carlos Contreras called up from Triple-A

(3/12/2013) The Reds made their first big cuts of the 2013 spring training season on Tuesday and among those optioned to Triple-A Louisville were starting pitcher candidates Tony Cingrani and Daniel Corcino. Pitchers Kyle Lotzkar and Josh Ravin were optioned to Double-A Pensacola. Pitcher Carlos Contreras and outfielder Yorman Rodriguez were sent to Class A Bakersfield, while pitcher Ismael Guillon was optioned to Class A Dayton. Several others were reassigned to minor league camp and they are as follows: RHP Nick Christiani, RHP Chad Rogers, C Nevin Ashley, IF Kristopher Negron and OF Ryan LaMarre.
