Mariners place Edgar Olmos (shoulder) on 15-day DL

(4/5/2015) The Mariners have placed Edgar Olmos on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 30, due to a left shoulder impingement.

Olmos was placed on waivers early in camp and claimed by the Rangers before it was discovered he was dealing with a shoulder issue, causing the team to reverse the move. He said in mid-March that he hoped to be ready for the start of the season.

(3/17/2015) Mariners reliever Edgar Olmos (shoulder) threw on flat ground Monday from 60 feet, according to MLB.com. He plans to extend to 75 feet Wednesday.

Olmos expects to be ready for the start of the season.

"I should be able to hurry up and skedaddle and break [spring camp] with the team," Olmos said. "It's a setback, but as long as I'm healthy, I know that I'll be able to compete with the best of them. That's my main focus right now, is just getting healthy, so I'm not really worried about when and where. Just get healthy and get after it."

Olmos went over to the Rangers briefly, but was sent back to the Mariners after it was revealed he had a shoulder issue. Olmos will replace Ji-Man Choi on the 40-man roster.

(2/24/2015) The Rangers have claimed relief pitcher Edgar Olmos on waivers from the Mariners, reports MLB.com. To make room, the team placed Jurickson Profar on the 60-day DL.

"He had a good year in Triple-A last year," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "We'll bring him in, let our pitching coaches work with him and see what we've got."

Olmos went 3-3 with a 4.06 ERA between two stints in the minors in 2014. He added 60 strikeouts and allowed 71 hits over 77 2/3 innings.

"His fastball really rides and gets in on hitters pretty good," Rangers scouting director Josh Boyd said. "Harnessing his command is something we hope to get over the hump. Stuff-wise, the ability to have that kind of velocity is something we want to take a look at."

Olmos was claimed off waivers by the team in November. He last pitched in the majors in 2013, posting an 0-1 record in five appearances with a 7.20 ERA in five innings.

Marlins take 17 players off spring roster

(3/17/2014) The Marlins reassigned 17 players to the minors Monday, which included optioning top pitching prospect Andrew Heaney to Double-A Jacksonville. Catcher Rob Brantly was also optioned to Triple-A New Orleans.

Joining Brantly at New Orleans are Sam Dyson and Brian Flynn, who was competing for a spot in the team's rotation. Edgar Olmos was optioned to Jacksonville.

The Marlins also reassigned Nick Wittgren, Bryan Evans, James Leverton, Greg Nappo, Adam Conley, Josh Spence, Rett Varner, Austin Barnes, Danny Black, Mark Canha, Colin Moran and Joe Benson to minor-league camp. Moran, who was the sixth overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft, is one of the team's top hitting prospects.

Outfielder Kyle Jensen and pitcher Evan Reed were also sent to New Orleans. The team optioned pitchers Sam Dyson and Edgar Olmos and outfielder Marcell Ozuna to Double-A Jacksonville. Pitcher Jordan Smith and catcher Wilfredo Gimenez were re-assigned to the minor-league camp.
