Wednesday foot surgery to end season for Josh Zeid

(7/30/2014) Astros right-hander Josh Zeid is out for the year. He is set to undergo foot surgery Wednesday.

The 27-year-old Zeid, who had hoped to avoid the procedure, finishes his 2014 season without a decision and a 6.97 ERA in 23 appearances.

(7/27/2014) Astros reliever Josh Zeid, who went on the 15-day disabled list Saturday due to bilateral sesamoiditis in his left foot, hopes to avoid surgery and pitch again this season, per MLB.com.

"It's definitely an option," Zeid said. "I don't think the word surgery has come up yet. It happens to be bilateral, so if you have to have surgery on both feet, it would be quite lengthy. That's not something I'm keying on right now. My goal is to help the team any way possible, whether it's this year, next month or a few months after that. I want to be able to help the Houston Astros as long as possible. I'm taking care of it right now, and nipping it in the bud is the best option."


Foot issues send Josh Zeid to disabled list

(7/26/2014) Astros pitcher Josh Zeid was placed on the disabled list after Saturday's game due to foot issues, the Houston Chronicle reports.

The injury has also affected Zeid's right shoulder, but his ailing foot is the genesis of the issues. He owns a 6.97 ERA and 18:7 K:BB ratio in 20 2/3 innings.

Zeid pitched decently in seven games with Houston early in the year. He gave up three runs in seven innings with eight strikeouts.

Albers has pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings over three appearances this season, striking out six. Zeid has made one appearance with Oklahoma City, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

(9/12/2013) Astros reliever Joshua Zeid recorded his first career save Wednesday in a win at Seattle. Zeid went 1 1/3 innings to close out the 6-1 win.

Zeid cleaned up a sticky situation for Houston and gave up one hit with a strikeout to record the final four outs. He threw 18 pitches and 14 went for strikes. Zeid has an ERA of 5.12.

The 26-year-old does not see regular save chances for Houston. He's given up runs in four of his last 10 appearances.

Zeid has gone 4-1 with a 3.50 ERA over 43 relief appearances with the RedHawks. He has 53 strikeouts over 43 2/3 innings.
