Maness has induced one double-play grounder this season after inducing 16 last year, which led NL relievers. His ground-ball rate has fallen from a major league-best 86 percent in 2013 to 65.5 percent after nine outings, the report said.

Seth Maness getting double plays

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Maness has a 2.52 ERA in 40 games.

Seth Maness providing surprising results

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

"He had some good outings in spring training, but did we realize this would be his job description? No," manager Mike Matheny said, per MLB.com. "Obviously, we've realized it here over the last couple of months that it's not just a knack, but that's what his pitch style really induces. It's a great opportunity to get him in there."

Seth Maness making most of promotion

by Adam Moore | CBSSports.com
(5/12/2013) Cardinals reliever Seth Maness has looked impressive during his brief stint in the majors. Maness, who was recalled from Triple-A Memphis April 29, is 2-0 and has not allowed a run over his three appearances (3 1/3 innings) entering Sunday against the Rockies.

"This whole thing has been pretty surreal," he told MLB.com. "I must have a little luck on my side. I'm in the right place at the right time, I guess."
