Rangers' Michael Kickham clears outright waivers

(5/9/2015) Rangers pitcher Michael Kickham has cleared outright waivers and has been assigned to Triple-A Round Rock, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Kickham was claimed by the Rangers off waivers Monday, with the team transferring Ryan Rua to the 60-day disabled list to clear a 40-man roster spot. With Kickham now clearing waivers, the Rangers have a free 40-man roster spot to use when needed.

(5/5/2015) The Rangers have claimed pitcher Michael Kickham off waivers from the Mariners and optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock, the team announced Monday.

Kickham was designated for assignment Monday by Seattle after making five starts in Triple-A, posting a 7.29 ERA with an 0-2 record.

In addition, Texas has transferred outfielder Ryan Rua to the 60-day DL with an ankle injury. Rua suffered an ankle sprain in early in the season and has been out of action since. Rua hit .235 with one run scored in 17 at-bats.

(5/4/2015) To make room for pitcher Joe Beimel and shortstop Chris Taylor, who were both called up from Triple-A Monday morning, the Mariners have designated for assignment pitcher Mike Kickham, reports MLB.com.

M's outfielder Austin Jackson (ankle) was added to the 15-day disabled list on Monday.

Kickman was pitching in Triple-A for the Mariners this season, going 0-2 with a 7.29 ERA in five starts.

(3/15/2015) The Mariners cut 10 players on Sunday. 

LHP Danny Hultzen, LHP Mike Kickham and outfielder Julio Morban were all optioned to Triple-A. 

Hultzen didn't give up a run in one hitless inning this spring. Kickham walked four but didn't give up an earned run in 3.1 innings. Morban hit .111 this spring.

Reassigned to minor league camp were RHP Sam Gaviglio (7.71 spring ERA), Stephen Landazuri (0.00 ERA in 2.2 innings) and Forrest Snow (12.00 ERA), outfielder Jordy Lara (.231 spring average) and catchers Steven Baron (0-for-1), Mike Dowd (2-for-4) and Tyler Marlette (3-for-5).


Cubs, Mariners complete minor swap

(1/14/2015) The Cubs announced they acquired minor league pitcher Lars Huijer from the Mariners. In exchange, Chicago shipped recently-DFA'd pitcher Michael Kickham to Seattle, per the team's official website. In order to make room for Kickham, the Mariners have designated pitching prospect Anthony Fernandez for assignment, per MLB.com.

Kickham owns a 10.98 ERA over 30 1/3 career innings. Huijer went 6-9 with a 5.08 ERA while pitching at the Class A level.

Kickham was claimed by the club a couple weeks ago, but was let go in order to make room for Chris Denorfia. Kickham has a 10.98 ERA over 30 1/3 career innings.

After logging 28 1/3 innings in 2013, Kickham made only two big-league appearances in 2014, coughing up five earned runs over two innings of work. He went 8-8 with a 4.43 ERA over 27 starts (148 1/3 innings) at Triple-A Fresno.

Kickham went 7-7 with a 4.31 ERA in 20 starts in the minors and 0-3 with a whopping 10.61 ERA in five appearances (three starts) in the majors. Machi owned a 0.98 ERA in 18 1/3 innings of relief in the minors this season.

(7/19/2013) With a doubleheader looming Tuesday against the Reds, the Giants are considering three pitchers from their minor-league system to take the hill for the second game, according to the San Francisco Chronicle: Eric Surkamp, Yusmeiro Petit and Michael Kickham .

All three are currently pitching for Triple-A Fresno, and have experience at the major-league level, though Kickham is the only one to have seen the majors this season.

He was optioned to Triple-A Fresno after the game.

Kickham has a 10.61 ERA, 2.04 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings over five games with the Giants.

Kickham allowed seven runs on nine hits over 2 2/3 innings. He didn't walk a batter, but he served up a three-run home run to Todd Frazier in the third inning as well as three doubles. Kickham owns a 13.94 ERA in three starts.

(6/29/2013) Giants pitcher Michael Kickham has been starting with Chad Gaudin on the disabled list recently, but manager Bruce Bochy thinks he could slide into the bullpen as a long reliever when Gaudin is ready to return.

"He’s got the equipment to do that," Bochy told the San Francisco Chronicle Saturday. "That used to be the way you broke starters into the majors, in long relief. With him, we're just going to go one start at a time and see how he handles it. If we have to make an adjustment, we will."

Kickham has struggled with the transition to starting in the majors, posting a 10.57 ERA in 7 2/3 innings over two starts. Gaudin is expected to come off the disabled list July 6.

(6/26/2013) Giants starting pitcher Michael Kickham was not much better in his second major-league start, as the Dodgers jumped on him for six runs in five-plus innings as he took his second loss.

Kickham pitched well for the first five innings of his start, allowing just two runs, but he came apart in the sixth. Kickham allowed four straight hits with one out, before being pulled from the start. Two runs scored prior to his exit from the game and two more inherited runners scored on the bullpen.

Kickham was charged for five earned runs on eight hits, while striking out five batters in 5 1/3 innings. A late rally was not enough to get him off the hook for the 6-5 loss.

Kickham is now 0-2 with a 10.57 ERA in his first two starts. It is not clear how long he is expected to stay with the Giants, but his next turn in the rotation is scheduled for Monday against the Reds.

(6/24/2013) The Giants are expected to start Mike Kickham in the place of injured pitcher Chad Gaudin on Tuesday against the Dodgers, CSN San Francisco reports Monday. 

Kickham was seen in the Giants' clubhouse before Monday's game. Gaudin suffered a forearm injury in his last start against Miami. Kickham allowed four runs in 2 1/3 innings in his only other start this season. He has a 4.81 ERA in 78 2/3 innings at Triple-A Fresno.
