Marlins remain interested in trading for Jim Johnson

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(7/23/2014) The Marlins remain interested in trading for Athletics reliever Jim Johnson, sources told The Miami Herald. Starting pitcher prospect Adam Conley is a name the A's have discussed with the Marlins about a player they could get in return.

FOX Sports reported the Marlins and A's nearly had a deal in place in early June, which would have included Miami's Competitive Balance pick in the draft (No. 39 overall) for Johnson. However, Miami dealt that pick to Pittsburgh in exchange for Bryan Morris.

Marlins looked at top prospects in wake of Jose Fernandez's injury

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/15/2014) Though the Marlins ultimately settled on minor-leaguer Anthony DeSclafani and veteran Randy Wolf, they gave a few other pitchers consideration to join the rotation in the wake of Jose Fernandez's injury.

"[Top prospect Andrew Heaney ] was definitely in consideration, as was Brian Flynn [from Triple-A New Orleans]," president of baseball operations Michael Hill told MLB.com Wednesday. "We looked at all of our upper-level pitching. When we got the news, we really couldn't reshift rotations to make someone available."

Heaney, the team's consensus top prospect is putting together another solid season in Double-A Jacksonville, but his place in the rotation made it so he was unavailable to start Wednesday. Hill expects Heaney, Flynn and left-hander Adam Conley to be potential call-ups if a further need arises down the road.

Adam Conley dealing with elbow tendinitis in Triple-A

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(5/9/2014) Marlins pitching prospect Adam Conley has not pitched in a week for Triple-A New Orleans, as he is on the disabled list with tendinitis in his left elbow.

Conley's injury is not considered serious according to MLB.com, though it is not clear when he is expected back in action. The 23-year-old had a 4.76 ERA in 34 innings of work prior to the injury.

Marlins take 17 players off spring roster

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/17/2014) The Marlins reassigned 17 players to the minors Monday, which included optioning top pitching prospect Andrew Heaney to Double-A Jacksonville. Catcher Rob Brantly was also optioned to Triple-A New Orleans.

Joining Brantly at New Orleans are Sam Dyson and Brian Flynn, who was competing for a spot in the team's rotation. Edgar Olmos was optioned to Jacksonville.

The Marlins also reassigned Nick Wittgren, Bryan Evans, James Leverton, Greg Nappo, Adam Conley, Josh Spence, Rett Varner, Austin Barnes, Danny Black, Mark Canha, Colin Moran and Joe Benson to minor-league camp. Moran, who was the sixth overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft, is one of the team's top hitting prospects.

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(1/9/2014) The Miami Marlins announced Thursday the 22 non-roster players that have received an invite to major-league spring training, the Sun Sentinel reports.

Marlins, Cubs could look into trading prospects

by Al Melchior | Data Analyst
(11/13/2013) According to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman, the Marlins and Cubs are considering talks regarding a trade of some of their top prospects.

The pitching-heavy Marlins may be willing to part with some of their young hurlers, including major leaguers Jacob Turner, Henderson Alvarez and Nate Eovadi as well as prospects Andrew Heaney , Justin Nicolino , Adam Conley and Jose Urena and late-season callup Brian Flynn. In return, they would likely target one or more of the Cubs' top hitting prospects, including Kris Bryant , Javier Baez , Albert Almora and Jorge Soler .

Adam Conley on same page with catcher

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/7/2013) Marlins pitching prospect Adam Conley, a 2011 second-round pick, threw five scoreless innings in his debut for Double-A Jacksonville Saturday. The left-hander struck out eight and allowed a hit.

"Usually, the biggest staple in a good outing for me is if I'm mixing my pitches well and working the fastball to both sides of the plate," Conley said to MLB.com. "I think I did a good job of that. (Catcher) J.T. (Realmuto) called a great game, and between him and my defense behind me, I knew I had all I needed to pitch well."

This isn't the first time Conley has had success with Realmuto catching. The battery worked together last season at Class A Jupiter, helping the Hammerheads to the Florida State League finals.

"We developed a camaraderie in Jupiter, for sure," Realmuto said. "And that's definitely carried over here this season, I think. We both know what pitches work best in what situations. He's never really shaking me off when it comes to that. We're almost always on the same page and it makes both of our jobs much easier."
