Brewers option Luis Sardinas to clear roster spot for Taylor Jungmann

(6/9/2015) Brewers starting pitcher prospect Taylor Jungmann was officially promoted from Triple-A Colorado Springs to start Tuesday's game at Pittsburgh.

To clear a roster spot, infielder Luis Sardinas was optioned to Colorado Springs.


Brewers go with Gerardo Parra in left field against Diamondbacks

(5/31/2015) The Brewers are starting Gerardo Parra in left field for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. 

Parra will likely be the starter in left field for a while with Khris Davis going on the disabled list due to a torn meniscus. At first base, Jason Rogers will start as Adam Lind deals with an ailing back. 

Elian Herrera is starting at third base with Luis Sardinas at second. 


Brewers place shortstop Jean Segura (finger) on 15-day DL

(5/14/2015) The Brewers have placed shortstop Jean Segura on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 13, with a fractured pinky finger, the team announced Thursday. 

The team will call up infielder Luis Sardinas from Triple-A on Friday to take Segura's spot on the roster. 

It is not know how Segura fractured the finger or if he is expected to be out more longer than the minimum 15 days.

(3/26/2015) The Brewers optioned outfielder Shane Peterson and infielder Luis Sardinas to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Thursday. Peterson hit .296 (8 for 27) with one home run and four RBI in 17 spring games, while Sardinas hit .294 (10 for 34) in 17 spring games.

(3/22/2015) Brewers infielder Luis Sardinas posted four hits and two RBI Sunday against his former team the Rangers. Sardinas, who is battling for a spot on the Opening Day roster, was struggling at the plate coming into the day, going just 3 for 25 the rest of spring.

"[Sardinas is] probably tired playing all nine innings," manager Ron Roenicke said. "But that was good for him. Everybody did a nice job swinging the bats today."

(2/25/2015) Brewers manager Ron Roenicke will spend spring training judging his infielder's versatility for depth behind Jean Segura and Scooter Gennett, per MLB.com.

Milwaukee has three shortstops on its 40-man roster with the chance to break camp with the big-league club. Hector Gomez, 26, and Luis Sardinas, 21, are expected to see time at second base behind Scooter Gennett.

"We want to give Scooter a chance against lefties, but if there's a day off we want to give him, or if it works out that we need to have a [right-handed hitting] guy there more often, who's it going to be?" Roenicke said. "Is it going to be Sardinas? Jimenez, because we know he hits lefties well? Who's that other guy who's going to be there?"

Yadiel Rivera, 22, should see some work at third behind Aramis Ramirez.


Brewers trade Yovani Gallardo to Rangers for three players

(1/19/2015) The Rangers have finalized the trade for Brewers starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. The Brewers will receive infielder Luis Sardinas, reliever Corey Knebel and pitching prospect Marcos Diplan in the trade.

The 28-year-old Gallardo is in the last year of his contract. He won less than 10 games in 2014 for the first time in the last six seasons. He is 89-64 with a 3.69 ERA in eight MLB seasons. 

The 21-year-old Sardinas made his MLB debut in 2014, batting .261 with six doubles, eight RBI and five stolen bases in 43 games. He had been considered a top-100 prospect by MLB.com in 2013 and 2014. He had a .289/.336/.355/.691 slash line in the minors.

The 23-year-old Knebel was traded for the second time in a year. He was traded from Detroit to Texas in July. He also made his MLB debut in 2014, posting a 6.23 ERA in eight relief outings for Detroit. He struck out 11 in 8 2/3 innings. He is 7-2 with a 1.65 ERA in two minor-league seasons.

The 18-year-old Diplan went 7-2 with a 1.54 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 13 starts in the Dominican Summer League in 2014. The Rangers signed Diplan in July 2013 for $1.3 million, per MLB.com.

(4/19/2014) The Rangers recalled shortstop Luis Sardinas from Double-A Frisco Saturday to replace Jim Adduci, who was placed on the disabled list.

Sardinas is considered one of the team's top prospects, but was hitting just .226/.255/.264 in 53 at-bats with Frisco prior to the injury. His role is not yet known.

(3/12/2014) Rangers pitching prospect Ben Rowen, whose progress this spring was hindered by biceps tendinitis, was sent down Wednesday to Triple-A Round Rock. Also banished to Round Rock was fellow reliever Wilmer Font .

The team also announced that shortstop Luis Sardinas and pitcher Lisalverto Bonilla were demoted to Double-A and shortstop Rougned Odor and pitcher Nate Adcock have been reassigned.

Rangers add three to 40-man roster

(11/21/2013) The Rangers added infielder Luis Sardinas and pitchers Lisalverto Bonilla and Ben Rowen to the 40-man roster Wednesday.

Sardinas hit .288/.340/.347 with two home runs, 46 RBI and 32 stolen bases between high Class A Myrtle Beach and Double-A Frisco. Bonilla went 7-5 with a 4.79 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 106:33 K:BB ratio in 73 1/3 innings between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. Rowen went 6-1 with a 0.69 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 58:17 K:BB ratio in 65 2/3 innings between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock.
